So guess what?!? About 4 days ago I noticed that Flint's eyes were turning cloudy and blue on feeding day. He didn't eat, but I know that's not a problem, so I let it go and refroze the rat. 2 days ago, I decided to get a jump on it this time and make sure that this shed happens properly. So I picked him up (yes, I know you're "not supposed to" pick them up during this time, but he is NOT aggressive in any way, shape, or form... ever), and while holding him, got his sphagnum moss hide nice and damp, then put it into the enclosure and guided him into it. He seemed extremely happy to get in there, because once he smelled it, he burrowed right in. I left him alone those two days without seeing a trace of him, but when I came home from work tonight at midnight, I noticed he was outside of the hide and very peppy.
Could it be? Could he have shed???? Well...

There's a full shot for you. Eye-caps and everything. One GORGEOUS piece. Measures about 25" long, although I'm not quite sure if sheds are accurate gauges...are they?
Anyway, because he seemed so spunky, I decided to give feeding another go, and sure enough, he ate two very nice sized rat pups/weaned rats. A well earned meal for a job well done I'd say!
I'll get some freshly shed pics for you tomorrow. ;D

Great!! We always prefer shots of the snake over the shed ;)

More to come tomorrow. I might go to the park and let him slither in the grass. =D

Okay. I don't understand. I see all these pictures posted here where snakes are allowed on trampolines, in back yards, on fences, etc... Well I live in an apartment; I don't have a yard. So the next best thing is the park next to my building.
Please explain to me how a backyard's grass is different than the grass in a park, and why I shouldn't let him stretch himself out for a little while.

Great shot. Nice snake.
The problem with a public park isn't the grass, it's the people who get alk excited when they see a snake. It can put stress on the hobby when a bunch of people call animal control to see if your legal or to come arrest the evil snake keeper. Sounds stupid and it is but this is a reality of our hobby.
My boyfriend and I went to a park with one of our older ball pythons and we got a few mixed looks. Either people didn't notice at all, they gave dirty looks, or gave their thumbs up and showed interest. I think that can go with saying that it could be a risk but they are completely legal and no harm is being done. If someone is willing to make that effort in calling it in then all I can say is wow haha. My 2 cents.

Terranaut is correct that it is a risk...but then again, if we all keep hiding our pets like illegal contraband, the situation will never get better. It's only by seeing tame pet treptiles in public on a regular basis that people will grow to accept them as "real" pets.
A caveat, however: if you do go to the park, make sure your animal is both legal and has all needed permits, just in case you get challenged.

See, this is the way I feel, too. The less exposure they get, the less acceptance and understanding there will be of them.
And no permits needed. Snakes are totally legal in California. (Except for pit vipers and such. But that's not happening anyway, lol.)

If you want to introduce your communty to pet snakes then do it at schools or at your house by invite only. This way the ones that DONT want to experience meeting a snake wont have to and they then wont call the police and kick up bad press for us.
It is well known throughout my daughters school, the hospital i attend, my friends and family, my facebook, my twitter account etc etc etc that if anyone would like to meet snakes in a safe place at their own speed then they can come to me.

Be sure to check your local laws as well. By the state it maybe legal but could still be against a city or county law. Better be safe than sorry. I seen people arrested and fine and their animals take because they didn't know of some stupid local law against reptile in public.
BTW beautiful Dumeril Boa.

Park today was fantastic. Flint seemed to really enjoy getting to stretch out in the grass and move freely. Plus, I got SO MANY good photos!

As for human interaction, there was none. A few people noticed me holding a snake, and they seemed intrigued, but not enough to actually come closer and inquire, lol.
Nice pictures! The best ones are always outside. It seems like your Dum really enjoyed itself being outside :)
