Hey guys, I am starting my adult carpet piece of furniture soon, and have a few questions. I am looking at a size of around 4 foot x 2 foot x 5 foot. If I made a built in pool with running water, would it be a waste? How do carpets relate to water in general? Also, if anyone has any concepts or suggestions to share that I can implement in my custom build, I would be very grateful.

I pretty much just make sure mine have a large bowl with fresh water in which they can soak or drink. If you had a running water feature, I think it would def be a cool "presentation enclosure". I'm not sure its entirely necessary though...

I would love to see pics once its completed.

Built in anything is a bad idea. Have something that you can remove, because even with a filter system and flowing water it will need to be removed every once in a while for a good cleaning/scrub down. It's also definitely not a necessity to have such a large pool with a snake that isn't very prone to just chill in the water. If it was an anaconda or d'alberts or something I might consider something large but Idk if its worth the headache with any carpets....

For a Carpet Python, having a lot of branches to climb should be a higher priority than a pool to swim in - not that it wouldn't enjoy it.

I`v had my JCP around 3 years now and never once have i seen her soaking in her tub, not saying she`s never done it, i`v just never seen her.

Alright, I will ditch the water concept. Seems like it is not worth all of that effort.

I have to agree with smy_749. I have learnt by experience not to make built-in anything... as it is a pain to clean and eventually I've demolished pretty much any non-removable features I've ever used. They look fantastic to start... but I learned the hard way that it just isn't practical. :(

my Carpets don't like being put in the bath, they freak out as soon as they feel the water, that said they calm down after a few minutes

the only time iv'e seen 1 of my carpets in a water bowl, was when a new quarantined jungle came to me with mites,it submerged itself, even the whole head under the water in it's bowl,it never did it again after i treated the mites

some of mt carpets are pretty destructive,i use real branches and fake silk leaved plants as tank decor, some also love taking a crap in their water bowl,so whatever you make should be easy to clean ,if your carpets takes a dump in it out imo

cheers shaun

P.S.jmo,your idea would look good as long as you don't have a rampaging carpet, i have found they usually trash their tanks at night

I must have the 1 in a million carpet compared to most. Mine loves her water bowl and doesn't have mites I've checked her over once every month or so. That's actually the only time she will get off her perches is to take a dip.
