Here is a Carpet lineage I've had since the late 80's.
These animals were originally from the Atherton Tableland area of north Queensland. The original animals came in during the 70's. I've kept this line pure and, no out crossing has been done.
These are F5 animals pictured.

its pretty cool you've kept the lineage that pure all this time mate
its a pity there are'nt more pure lines available outside Oz
imo the one in the last picture, has the same look as a carmel coastal
its also good to see no health issues all the way up to F5
thanks for sharing mate

Yeah, I kept her because she had blushed out markings right from the egg. Most of the others are typical jungle type animals but, I get a few like her every clutch. The Tablelands is a huge area and depending on what habitat you're in...you can see lots of variation within it. The original group consisted of several animals collected over a large area so, it's easy to see where the variation comes from. I'm actually surprised that there isn't more variation in these clutches to be honest. Haha.

have you ever paired up 2 of the blushed out looking Athertons to see what they would produce (a pairing of 2 that look like the one in the last picture)

I have actually Shaun. I don't notice anymore or less of the blushed ones in the group.
I believe those looks just to be throw backs to one of the original animals I had.
Here are the great grandparents. As you can see one of the females has more of a "grassland" (blushed/coastal) look.
These pictures were taken right after their first clutch (along with the couple baby shots) in 1992.

Here's a shot of the female by herself.

Here are a couple of baby shots. I have several other pictures but, they are so blurry it's pointless to scan em.
My silver female "Rudi" she would have been hatched out of this clutch.

Here's Rudi

And Bert....these were first picks that I held back from my first clutch.

Yeah, "Coastal" animals vary a lot but, With true Coastal animals (which is a big variation in color and pattern) you hardly ever have solid black head markings. You only see that when you get into Jungle territory in which a lot of integrate zones exist with the "coastal" form.
Having been there on more than a few occasions...I've only ever seen solid black head markings close to or actually in jungle territory.
Coastal animals that are found in areas with overhead coverage will have blushed out or very faded head patterns (like the female in the last photo of my first post) and animals with no overhead coverage areas (like some of the locales around the Brisbane area and south) have almost patternless head patterns.
Most animals that have a solid marking through the eye and down to the rostral scale are jungle form animals. Whether they are "jungle" or "coastal" really makes no difference... being that they are genetically the same. Haha.

Yeah I remember that picture. Smokin animal.
Man, it'd be nice just to driving and come across that snake!!!
Of course, people outside of the USA say that about our animals. Grass is always greener on the other side I guess! Haha.

it's ALWAYS greener outside Scotland mate
we only have 2 native snakes in the UK and they're a lot harder to find up here in the North part of the UK...
we do have MUCH better scenery than the English though :D
i'v seen Locale Specific Coastal pictures and i know what you mean regards faded, mottled, barely visible, head markings,i prefer them to the bold Carpet head markings
you have a stunning collection mate :cool::cool:

Fantastic pics!! It's neat to see the older pics as well of the previous generations. And also neat that they're scanned in photos. Haha... don't see that so often anymore. :)
These are beautiful. I absolutely love the pic of the snake in the red enclosure. Very nice group. :)

That's Rudi in the red enclosure. She was a great breeder and great all around snake. She did have a terrifying food response though.
I believe she was an Axanthic animal. She always threw silver and black babies I never put 2 and 2 together until a few years ago. I'll know in a couple weeks if she was a full Axanthic as I have a clutch from 2 of her sibs in the incubator now.
I'll keep y'all posted.

Awesome looking carpets man. Do you still have the original animals from the 70s? Just curious as to what your oldest ones are getting to.

I don't.
My animals were from the late 80's but, the line goes back to the 70s.
I just recently lost Rudi.
I've been in the process of writing a BHP python book. In my investigating age in captive BHP, the oldest on record I could find was just over 20.
My oldest carpets have gotten 25+ years...maybe 27 being the oldest.
All of the original animals I sold to go tour with bands and whatnot. I was lucky to get Rudi and Bert back from the guy I sold the original ones too. I produced a good many of em though. There out there with a few other keepers working with em.
Looking forward to this clutch hatching. Bout 3 weeks out.

Thats really cool that you were able to get them back. Ive never worked with carpets, so Im not really familiar with how they age, upper limits, etc. I just assumed its around the same as other medium sized pythons. 27 years is a good long time man.
