after i typed up and pm'd MDT matt few charts i use in relation to how i keep Diamond Pythons,i thought i'd post them in a thread.....

FEEDING &TEMPERATURE chart...

JANUARY 80f day 0900 - 1500 80f night (introduce males)

FEBUARY 84f day 0800 - 1800 80 night (continue to introduce males)

MARCH 84f day 0700 - 1800 80 night (female ovulation/males feeding)

APRIL 84f day 0700 - 1900 night 80f (egg laying and feeding)

MAY 84f day 0700 - 1900 night 80f (feeding)

JUNE 84f day 0700 - 1900 night 80f (feeding)

JULY 84f day 0700 - 1900 night 80f (feeding)

AUGUST 84 day 0700 - 1900 night 80f (feeding)

SEPTEMBER 84 day 0700 - 1900 night 80f (last feeding)

OCTOBER 1st 80f day 0800 - 1800 night 80f (no feeding)

0CTOBER 21st 76f day 0900 - 1500 night time lows 50f to 60f (no feeding)

NOVEMBER 76f day 0930 - 1430 night 50f to 60f (no feeding)


DECEMBER 76f day 0930 - 1430 night 50f to 60f (no feeding)



BASKING & UVB chart...


JANUARY 2hr bask & uv/cold night time low (no feeding)

FEBUARY 2 & 4 hour bask/uv ntl (no feeding)

MARCH 4 hour bask/6hr uv (intro males)

APRIL 4 hr bask/ 8hr uv (continue to introduce males)

MAY 4hr bask/8hr uv (female ovulation/males feeding,possible heat pad 68f)

JUNE 4hr bask/10hr uv (egg laying & feeding)

JULY 4hr bask/10hr uv (feeding)

AUGUST 4hr bask/8hr uv (feeding)

SEPTEMBER 4hr bask/8hr uv (feeding)

OCTOBER 4hr bask/6hr uv (last feed to clear gut)

NOVEMBER 2 & 4 hr bask/uv at same,night time low 50f to 60f

DECEMBER 2hr bask/& uv ntl.few days no bask/uv


i work between both charts,by using the basking/uvb from the 2nd chart,applied to the first chart...

MY REVISED chart and basking/uvb times,that i added to the first chart

1ST numbers = basking time...2ND numbers = UV time

jan 4/6 hrs

feb 4/8hrs

mar 4/8hrs

apr 4/8hrs heat mat set at 68f

may 4/10

jun 4/8hrs

jul 4/8 hrs

aug 4/8 hrs

sep4/6 hrs

oct 2/2

nov 2/2 hrs

dec 2/4

i hope all of the above makes sense folks

P.S.the 1st and 2nd charts,use different months in which you stop feeding the Diamonds

i stop feeding mine in September which is what the 1st chart suggests,i then use the 2nd chart as a reference,to obtain my basking and uvb times,which i apply to the 1st chart

Cool! Thx for posting shaun! Do you use the same charts for your jungles? Also, what importance does uvb have in regards to captive carpet pythons?

Diamonds have completely differing needs to jungles, including needing uv

Very interesting. Ok, so two questions: 1) why do they need the uv? (digestion?) and 2) What are the needs of diamond crosses? I have seen some diamond coastal mixes etc. and would assume that they also would need uv?
