I have a new ball python... I've had it for 3weeks now.. At first he didn't poop for about 2 weeks but when I finally did some research I gave him a warm bath and he pooped on me (haha) anyways it was runny and smelled worse then my kids diapers.. Then today I picked him up 5days later..from his first poop and I saw a small black bug crawling on his head I immediately googled it and found out it might be a mite.. I soaked him n water and the mite died .. But he popped on me again and his poop was runny AGAIN .. HOW bad is my problem ?

Well. The stink part is normal not sure about the runny part. Its unlikely you just have ONE mite. If I were you I would do either a nix treatment or PAM (prevent a mite) and once that is sorted a vet visit may be in order for the stool

Mites = external parasites
runny poop = internal parasites.
I would venture to guess you have problems.
Head to a vet with a sample of the poop for a fecal culture.

My next question is where the heck did you get this snake?

If you treat for mights your going to have to sanitize the entire cage and its contents to ensure they aren't hiding in there as well.

Regarding the "runny poop": Do you know when the snake fed last? I have some that drink more than others, changing the consistency of their feces.

approxmitaly 6 days ago.. He's due for another feed but his eyes are really milky so I think he's getting ready to shed so I'm going to hold off for a cpl more days ..

I would give him the opportunity to eat anyway. All of my BP's have taken food when in full gray.

And yeah, snake feces stinks a lot worse than dirty diaper! Fortunately they don't go as often.

even if nothing is actually wrong in the long run a vet visit is usually a good bet for a new snake even if to just introduce the snake to your vet and get a relationship started between the two.

if your feeding rat pups, fuzzies, prey with no fur, then poop tends to be runny, until they're on larger prey with fur, small weiners, large weiners, etc

what are you feeding ?

re mites
imo the best mite product is provent a mite, its the only product i use,use obnce, mites dead, its that easy mate

cheers shaun

Feeding small mice with hair .. No pinkies.. And it was weird I saw one mite .. Never saw another one again unless they're really hiding well .

They'll "show up" soon enough if left untreated.

If they are snake mites we're talking about.
