What is a good price for a mojave male in canada? i have found 2 classifieds for $150 each and i was under the impression they were usually more than that. i know the female is going to be much more.
I recently got a female here for $275, and I've seen them go up to $325. I've seen males go for around $100-$200 so I'd say $150 is fair. All depends on how old too of course.

I had two for sale this year.
I sold them for $90 and one for $65 as part of a deal.
I wouldn't pay more than $100 for one if I was in the market for them.

I paid $50 for my mojave and he eats and sheds perfect. That came straight from a breeder.

Why don't you get a proper thermostat first?

Unfortunately there is a huge price difference between Canada and the states.

I don't think he was trying to insult you. I think he is asking a legitimate question.
Just last week me and my friend took our cricket bin off of a thermostat, because we had better uses for it and thought the crickets would be fine with a dimmer. They all died. I'm just glad that is was $6 worth of crickets and not one of my snakes...

I really don't think he is trolling. I have seen similar responses from a lot of other people when people talk about skipping the thermostat. It is just a risk that people dont think anyone should be taking.
Also, if you really want to cheap out, you can get thermostats that are made for baseboard heaters for around 10$ at home depot. You can also get thermostats on ebay for 15$ from hong kong. As well as the ones from amazon for around 50$ with shipping. There are a lot of different options. And with all these options, why not buy thermostats for the snakes you have, then in a few months when you have money saved start looking into buying others. It is a lot less risky, and I have a feeling you dont want your snakes ending up like my crickets.

I think he is right though, you should try and set up everything and get that out of the way before getting more reptiles. I'm not challenging your way of care or that you are getting a whole bunch of new additions, I'm just stating that it is easier and more responsible to do so. Also, are you quarantining?

i agree, and i have my reasons for where i am at, it is simply not as black and white or extreme as anyone is making it out to be. the short version is yes i temporarily have a manual thermostat that i need to keep an eye on which i have plenty of time to do. and yes i invested in more snakes than common sense would allow because of the expo and the lower prices. as for not being able to afford a proper one like i said, temporary until after my wedding, when i will have tons of disposable income to play with to upgrade everything. as for the mojave's i was only asking because i thought they were normally several hundred more and i was intrigued, i dont have the room at the moment to buy it even if i wanted to.

yes in a way, they arent individualy quarantined, but they are seperated by store. most of them came from the same booth, i got kind of a bulk discount and his prices were already very good. the ones that came from other areas are on their own

The price difference can be huge! I can purchase a snake in the states pay for shipping and a permit, mark the price up a bit and still beat most Canadian prices.

Not quite, CITES is more expensive then you think, + there is a border inspection fee that was 239$ last time I checked.
To get my retics sent up here was just shy of 900$.
Most breeders wont bother if the animal value is below 2500$.

Did you do it yourself or did you pay to have it done?
I have an acquaintance that can get me permits for $50 plus 20% of animal value. He has his master cites so my permit shows up in less than two weeks.
Back in September I brought 19 snakes over on a permit I acquired myself. It took me 4 months for the permit to be processed. I never had an inspection done at the border though. Someone else claims I should have ( pm me if you want his name) but the people I was talking to here in Canada ( cifa and such) never mentioned needing an inspection.

You absolutely need an inspection, its illegal to not claim them at the crossing and if you claim them you need to have scheduled an inspection in advance.
CANADIANS dont need to pay for their CITES permits to SEND animals to the states
AMERICANS need to pay for CITES to SEND animals to canada
If you hire a broker it costs more, I did the work myself.

I live in NB. I claimed them and showed my permit. I will need to call and check on that inspection.
The border crossing I use is terrible. I have been importing frozen rodents for 16 months and just this month they decided I couldn't anymore because they were "pet food". They are not very well organized. I almost lost a $400 order.

I paid $500 last time I brought animals up through a breeder who has master CITES.
It can range but expect to be in the $800 to $1000 range to bring animals across that are CITES.
