Hey guys :) it's been a while since I've been on here. I'm sorry. I would've asked y'all first, but I panicked. My CCP hasn't eaten for months. I mean like 5 months. She had mites, and I treated her for them per Shaun's instructions. Eventually everything seemed fine. I tried to feed her again..... She seemed interested. Smelled the rat SEVERAL times! But always turned away.... I found a Facebook group on my area and it just so happened one of ex-co workers was a part of it! I was asking for a heat bulb, light bulb, whatever anyone could offer. See, I just lost my job and I can't afford them! His girlfriend said they'd come and see Sero. They would bring a heat pad and bulb, see how she is, etc. they did! But I've gone too fast. I recorded her "breathing" while sitting on my lap. I knew what it was, but needed another opinion. I still want more Opinions. I know what she has- but can RI's really be cured with heat? These people drove, in the
Snow, to find me. The girlfriend handled Serophina.... And loved her. But is heat really enough? And if so/ how long do I give it? They even gave me a rat to freeze to feed when I thought she was ready. When is she ready?

I forgot th mention, the video of her breathing is the reason the came out! The girlfriend just happened to like Sero because she is as docile as I said! Even "sick"

With very mild ri's higher temperatures can help to get rid of them, as the higher temperatures help the snakes immune system, and can help to kill of the bacteria, however it will only work on a real mild case, most ri's will require further treatment, like nebulizing or anti biotics.

if caught in the early stages, then a heat increase of 5 degrees at your hot end for 3 or 4 weeks, can be enough to beat it

the raised temps aid the snakes immune system

a slight raise in humidity will keep the mucas from drying out, allowing the snake to expell it

the use of a nebuliser, with a product called F10,used twice daily for 15 minutes per session, can also get the snake back to health

if the respiratory issues are in a later stage, then some form of antibiotic will be required from a vet

i'm sorry to hear you lost your job mate

all the best,shaun

Ri can be really hard to get rid of once it hits advanced stages dont wait more than a week if heat alone doesnt help get rid of it before a bet visit

Sorry if i have misunderstood... but Are you suggesting I rehome her before her RI gets worse? I thought that was an underlined "code": never rehome a sick animal, no matter the species? It makes me a little weary thinking of doing that... I'm not a breeder or a business owner, but I'd prefer to keep a good rep when it comes to reptiles... Snakes especially. I hope that's not what you meant..... But I don't see any positive outcome from your statement. Sorry dude :/

I will rephrase what rmf said for you as i think you misunderstood.

"If the heat alone hasnt got rid of the RI dont wait longer that a week before visiting a vet"

No worries, it is always hard to get the exact meaning across in just text on a screen :)

Lol it's okay. I also could have just read it correctly lol.

Rob, besides all of this and being unemployed yet again, I'm doing okay. If things go well with Sero I will be rehoming her. I already have a few people interested. It's just what's best for her until I get back on my feet. It's been hard caring for her alone anyway... But I will not stop having reptiles as long as I can provide for them as necessary!

We had to rehome pur lizards due to a change in our circumstances meaning we couldnt support them properly, its not nice and a hard decision to make but the animals welfare has to come first. I hope you find some work soon :)

imo if caught in the early stages,an increase of 5 degrees in your hot end for 3 or 4 weeks, can be enough to cure a respiratory infection

re early stages
when the breathing is loud enough to be heard, whistling whezing, etc

if there is excess mucas in the mouth,or the mouths gaping open, throats puffing out, etc, then imo thats a job for antibiotics

there are alternative methods that can be used on RI's that are just past the early stages (i will pm it to you mate)

cheers shaun

p.s.i'm sorry to hear you lost your job mate
