I have two corns.

Initally they began with pinkies and eventually I was reccomended by a friend to bump them up to rat pups. Ive been feeding them rat pups every 7 days for a couple of weeks. A self proclaimed "snake expert" buddy of mine suggests i should feed them three to four pinkies every week as opposed to their current eating pattern.
What should I do my snake peoples? Info much appreciated!!

That rat pup looks like it could eat the snake. o___O

o.o Rat pup? Omg... ahahaha. That's way too big. Your red corn looks about the size of mine and she eats large fuzzies. Hard to tell how big the brown corn is, but perhaps 2 large pinkies? If not fuzzies as well?
Edit: I'm sorry for laughing about the rat pup. The poor little snake looks so confused though is why I cracked up. :P

That rat is about the same size comparison that i feed my corns. I fed every seven days for the first year and then goto a fourteen day schedule. Always with rats or mice that are twice the girth of the snake (or so) :)

I would feed the corn in the second pic slightly smaller food than the item it is pictured with. I would feed every 7 days for 1 yr.
Yeah..they call them rat pups at the pet store. lol
Id think the "rat pup" would hurt the snake. But the snakes take them down everytime. lol
Thanks peoples!

Thanks peoples! It makes me so sad. I have a pet rat that I adore. I can't imagine ever feeding a live baby rat to anything. Not that I'm criticising you for it. I just don't have it in me. =/

ME TOO! I bought a pet rat for my brother,we call him ratatouille. lol
It is kinda rough..born to die! But I just keep my snakes health in mind.
Youre definitely right though..i get called a monster...alot lol

I saw that second picture and omg i feel bad for that snake. why would you put the two together? its like a loose loose situation. snake eat pup. snake can rip open. OR snake doesn't eat pup. pup eats snake o.O
but if the snake can down it then damn , that's a tough snake

I feed smaller items on an every 5 day schedule until they're large enough for adult mice. Then they go to every 7, 10, or 14 days depending on the individual animal's metabolism. Some people might say it's an aggressive schedule, but younger snakes, similar to humans, have a much faster metabolism than adults and can benefit from this feeding schedule.

If the prey is too big then the snake wont eat it, and should it start eating and find its too big it will regurge it.
This is the third time in a week i have heard someone say that snakes can get ripped open by eating large prey yet having done internet searches i havent found any examples - can you link your sources? :)

Go with what you have got going on Kenny. If they are eating that size you are fine.
Thanks for the input everybody! I too thought they were too big..but they continue to chug them down with ease. Like lankyrob said..i don't think my corns would take more than they could handle.
This schedule you use...do different schedules such as these provide faster growth than other feeding patterns??

The more often that you feed the Quicker the snake will grow BUT i would rather have a slow growing healthy snake than a quick growing fat snake that dies early. Most snakes in captivity are fed much more often than any wild snake would feed. Some border on obesity too :)

I have friend and mentor that feeds his snakes a ridiculously large prey item less often than a small prey item more often. His snakes are extremely healthy and look great. I am unsure of what he does for anything under a year though.
Good and clear answer! Thanks! Ill keep my snake on the slow healthy path!

Wow it's weird to see corns so small..I've had mine for 9 years now and I forgot how tiny he was when I bought him until now. Anyways, I'm not sure if i'm feeding my snake big enough prey items. He is about 4-5 ft. long and not very heavy set. I think he looks pretty healthy, but i'm sure it wouldn't hurt him to gain just a little wieght. I usually feed him a large mouse every or everyother week, unless the pet store is out of mice. Then, I feed him a small rat every other week. Is this enough?? Also, I have a columbian red tail boa constrictor. He is about 1 1/2- 2 years old and round 4 feet. He is about twice as thick as the corn. He looks healthy as well. I'm pretty sure his food size is fine for him at the moment, but i'm thinking about upping the food size from small to medium rats. What to you guys think??

A picture speaks a thousand words :) and if you start your own thread in the relevant section of the forum you will get much more responses :)

lol i wish i had a source, the only time i seen a snake ripped open from eating is from a tv show and a large snake tried eating a baby hippo i think it was.. but just thinking about how much they can stretch until they burst...
