View Full Version : Do rosy boa bellies change color when stressed?

So during my recent trip to the vet, I noticed something funny while he was being handled. Maybe it was the bright lights in the examination room, but the belly looked very rosy colored. Before that time the belly always appeared to be very light yellow / white-ish color.

I haven't looked again closely since home yesterday as I want to let him chill out after some vet manhandling.

Do these boas (or any other breeds for that matter) ever color change when stress/excited/etc? Like how humans blush? I could swear I looked all over my rosy for actual rosy colors after reading where the name comes from, but never saw anything but black and tan until yesterday. Am I crazy or just haven't seen in the same bright light before?

Blood and Carpets Pythons both will blush. Some Bloods you can actually see their heads get darker when stressed.

Well since having her home her belly seems all rosy all the time now. Very strange, but at least lives up to the namesake now...!

Sometimes a rosy belly can mean the snake is getting ready to shed. Ours all go pink a week or so before their eyes go opaque.

also a pink belly can be a burn,if its a burn the rosey pink will change to a biege/brown,then dry out and scab over (your vet would have noticed a burn imo )

cheers shaun

Yup, Becky nailed it I think. About a week after his belly went very rosy, he finally shed. Now it's back to the normal color, which has a bit of pinkish to it but not nearly as much as it did when I noticed it at the vet.
