No... I take far more offence to hillbilly. If you where to call 98% of my friends a hillbilly you would most likely get hurt. However we accept that we are rednecks.

Interesting... I thought redneck meant white trash racist who refuses to accept change, or a derogatory term to call poor farmers.

Hillbilly, on the other hand, is a term to describe people who live out in the country and the woods and such.

Correct me if I'm wrong?


Obviously the term redneck is used more loosely nowadays, but I'm just surprised to hear that hillbilly is more offensive...

Redneck- is someone that lives in the woods and works the land. Yes I know a lot of racist ones and some of us are not. I am still more proud to be a redneck than referred to as a hillbilly.

Kat got it right. There can be more or less to it depending upon your demographic area. I'm considered a redneck because I can hunt and fish and enjoy myself more in the woods than the city. I'm also from Louisiana so white trash term sometimes goes along with it. I am NOT white trash no matter what definition of the term you use.

As for what we are called. My friends ( all two of them) up here call me either a yankey or redneck ( this stems from the fact that I play paintball shirtless). I may have lived in south central IL but unfortunately I can no longer be a redneck. It is something I have given up long ago as people just don't understand the way of the rednecks. I saddens me but what's a manto do but embrace the madness.
