I keep hearing that those snakes are aggressive.. Something I read said that Colombian BCC were the only ones that were nicer, but I can only find info about Colombian BCI... For a bit I thought those two were the same things, but then someone else said they were different.

Does anyone have a BCC list of all the different localities, their temperaments and their sizes? And also I'm thinking that the people with the aggressive BCC just didn't socialize their snakes enough, but I'm new to all this and could be wrong.

Who's telling you BCC are aggressive? Could it be someone who doesn't want you to get one? (family member?) Everything I hear and read is that they are one of the more docile, friendly types of snakes. There are a lot of factors that can make a snake aggressive, improper care is a huge one. If the snake is aggressive the owner is doing something wrong.

I agree with this I have several different boa locales the only crabby one I have is a nic and many people can attest they are nippy little ones otherwise they are very docile creatures

Bci stay 6-8ft average, some bigger some smaller.... However BCC get quite abit bigger I believe.. Needs bcc keeper to reply for actual size tho.

Yes bcc do grow larger.

They are no more aggressive then a bci.

I haven't heard or experienced BCC being particularly grumpy.

Lol It is true, though. A lot of factors go into why a particular snake may be aggressive, including pure luck.

Not necessarily, but proper caging helps alot.

You guys are missing the point completely. Some snakes are more defensive/agressive even if your husbandry is correct.

Ditto.

You're never going to make a ATB as "tame" as a ball python, or a coachwhip as docile as a corn snake. Has nothing to do with the husbandry. Some species (and individual specimens!) are just naturally highstrung and flighty, or downright defensive/aggressive.

I always heard that bcc boas were harder to get to settle with a handler, iv a bci and he is a perfect gent, iv never seen or held a bcc, but it's just what iv heard.

Well, the reason I thought they were aggressive was from this site: Welcome Rio Bravo Reptiles (http://www.riobravoreptiles.com/index.htm)

I looked at a couple true red-tail species and I don't think I saw a single boa that he labeled docile.

A responsible vendor will not promise snakes to be docile if there is a chance they are not. That doesn't mean that you will get an aggressive snake. You are taking a chance and will have to put effort into conditioning the snake to be docile.

This is pure speculation, but maybe it has something to do with BCC being more likely to be imports or a few generations from, and kept by breeders or people interested in specimens more often, whereas BCI are more likely to have been captive bred for a lot of generations and be kept by people who view them more as pets (in theory, putting in a lot more handling because pets looove cuddles).

Just a guess. Still, the only BCs I've heard of tending to have a testier disposition have been BCOs. Don't have first-hand experience with them myself, though.
