So finaly got moved i to our new place. was planning on building the sav enclosure in the dining room but unfortunatly after measureing the 8ftx4ftx4ft space it takes up 1/3rd of the room nearly. so gutted as proper had my heart set on a sav. best i could go would probs be 6/7x3x3.

Can you build in a corner?
I have seen some corner enclosures that give good room for the lizard to move around, and not take so much space away from the human occupants.

Yeah one of the corners is free so could be an option

I think that if you have to compromise the size of the viv at all then you shouldn't get a monitor. Then again if you can't go for a lot of depth would adding a level work? Have your base be the 6x3x3 but add another 6x3x 2or3 on top. You would only have deep sub-straight on the bottom one but you could get 10 or so inches of base on the top level..

I shouldt have to compromise if i build in the corner tho

4 foot either side, 2 feet in the middle, takes up but a corner, and yet gives 10 feet total width. Build it right, and you can sit other vivs on top of it.

Don't see where it's a compromise at all.
I am adding another 8 feet to my monitor cage, I have no choice but to use a corner arrangement. The room simply will not accommodate 16 feet otherwise.

Or just use the whole room and sit in front of the tv to eat ;)

This thread is giving me builders remorse! I only wish I had thought of it for my build. It is a brilliant idea. I would have been able to add a good bit more to the size.

That corner build is awesome!
The place I had wanted to build my sav's viv gave us 2 feet of room to get to the kitchen so we had to find a new space. Husband reminded me how hard it was to get the new fridge inside with the 6 foot space lol! I have to reinforce my savs roof so I can put some snake racks up there. I was going to put aquariums, but i'll keep them where they are. I could probley get all my adult cornsnakes up there ;) I keep most of my corns in my bed room so when friends come over I take them out. I have 4 kids so my bedroom is laundry hell :)
