dumerils boa acting lethargic

I have a 6ft dumerils boa that is acting lethargic. I got home from work almost 4hrs ago and he has been laying in the same position ever since i walked in the door. I just figured he was sleeping until just now when i was misting him. Usually he will start moving around a little bit while i mist him but this time he just kept laying there. When i misted his head he moved it a little bit and flicked his tongue, but he didnt move his head much at all and his body didnt move. I am still sort of a novice snake owner so any thoughts on what could be wrong would be very helpful. Thank you.

We need to know more.. How is the viv set up,temps, humidity, Heat source, thermostat ext... When did he last eat, shed, all of this will help us help you..

might be getting ready to shed , when was the last shed? my boa doesn't move around much prior to shedding , even when misted . what are your temps ? humidity ? whats changed latley ?

Why are you misting a dumeril's they only need a humidity of 45 to 55. Did he eat recently? Did he have a temp drop in the viv? To see if he is shedding look at his belly if its pink he may be going into shed.

His temp is 80, humidity is just below 60. He ate 2 medium rats 4 days ago. He shed 5 days ago. Another wierd thing he did was 3 nights ago he constricted my arm. I think i may have woke him up when i got him out of his aquarium cuz when i picked him up he immediately wrapped around my arm and started squeezing. I didnt want to hurt him by unwrapping him while he was squeezing that hard so i just waited for him to give up, which took almost an hour. He never bit me though.

He wasn't constricting you he was try to feel secure. His warm side should be between 88 and 92 and a cool side in the high seventies. Why would you handle a snake the night after feeding? Did he regurge?

I handled him because he knocked his thermometer down and was laying on it. I was picking him up to get to the thermometer so i could put it back up. And no he did not regurgitate.

the temps sound low, whats the warm side ? and the cool side? ambient of 80s is ok but warm side should be 90ish.

How do they act if they are too cold? And too hot? Or does it sound like he might possibly be sleeping and doesnt want to be bothered?

do you even have a warm side? this would explain the problem...

Up his heat a few degrees. Two mediums is a big meal it may be taking him a few extra days to digest. If he is to cool he will be lethargic.

Yup I agree. He is just cold and it's very hard for any reptile to digest even a smaller meal if they are cold. Up his temps and wait him out a bit. I bet he will be very normal a day or 2 after he warms up a bit more. Good luck. Please keep us posted.

His warm side is at 85, ill bump it up to 90 and see how hes acting in the morning. Thanks everyone, ill post back tomorrow and let you know how hes doing.
