I was recently in South America for a vacation and did alittle "herping" late one evening. Me and my friend came across 2 snakes, and a few other interesting creatures.
Here are some pictures:
supposedly a pretty poisonus snake

Nice pics, that would be fun finding "exotic" species that you dont see in the wild (where you live). Always fun herping in new places.

Thanks guys

Shane, that pac man was about 5-6" in diameter :D
Also, I fished for whatever I could. I basically tried for piranha (which i think tastes alittle like pickeral (http://pictures.care2.com/view/2/252122472) :) )
I've got some shots of them as well:

Corina (supposedly great eatting... but one of the few fish i didn't eat) (http://pictures.care2.com/view/2/557454686)
Big cat (http://pictures.care2.com/view/2/362234164)
piranha and something else (http://pictures.care2.com/view/2/187918711)
pacu (http://pictures.care2.com/view/2/916625517)
tilapia (very tastey) (http://pictures.care2.com/view/2/664135570)

That snake is definitely poisonous..I'm pretty sure it's a Bothrops jararaca

Can anyone give a 100% ID on it?

The tri-colour is Lystrophis semicinctus...these are seen in the pet trade from time to time...

Nice pics:)

should have heard me shreek like alittle girl when it came towards me :)
that Lystrophis semicinctus is part of the hog nose family right? If it is, its one of the most beautiful ones i've ever seen. It did the whole "fake death" thing when I went near him.

I'm pretty sure it's closely related, and it's a little more venomous than Heterodon as well. Beautiful snakes

I would've been running in all directions screaming if I was in your shoes...LOL

I went into the Amazon of peru for a few weeks while living in South America and some of the insects i saw were insane. I have a pict if i can find it that looks like a spider mixed with a scorpion and some awsome frogs and toads

If that spider came up to me.. i'd look like a freaking frilled dragon .. I'd just start running around in circles fast lol

Loll!! Same here ... if that spider came ANYWHERE near me I would just freak ... start jumping all over the place or something!!! I don't mind observing them through glass ... but besides that I'd rather be far away as possible from them!!

People think I'm weird ... I have snakes, lizards, crickets, rats and mice all over my house, yet I can't stand the sight of a simple house spider withour freaking out!!! loll!!! Must be something wrong with me .....

Beautiful pics, by the way! That hognose has amazing colors!! Must have been a great trip!!

great pics!

Chris....I cant say for sure, but I would say Im about 90% sure that its a bothrops jararaca, so i agree with you
definitely a bothrops and definitely not atrox, asper, or urutu

Hahaha, nice pics....

Pythonian, if I even saw that spider, it would be a 100% "grab and go" situation... hahaha, I am an invert guy!

That snake is a bothrops atrox or also known at the fer-de-lance or terciopelo and the other snake is a tri colored hognose snake.
i just came back from costa rica and caught a couple fer-de-lance however, they are a different genus then the ones you found. the ones i caught were bothrops asper.

Anyways have a nice day in paradice,

Jordan :)

great pics, but if i came across that spider(probably a tuarantula) I'd probably just pic it up and hope to god the thing didnt sink those fangs in me. I think tuarantulas are cool, ecspecially the goliath bird eaters!!!!!!1
