I am still deciding on my next snake, I am seriously considering a blood or JCP. they are both gorgeous, i know the carpets are active, but that is basically it, and they stay smaller, so that's a plus!
I'd like to know more about both! thanks :smug:

Carpets are a thinner, more active snake that like to climb, so they'll make use of an arboreal setup (an enclosure with branches and things to climb on) which makes them an awesome display animal. This is my carpet doing his thing:

Bloods are less active and will spend all of their time on the ground. Also, both species could be bitey or tame, but I'm pretty sure a carpet is slightly more likely to be tame than a blood python.

I strongly advise against a Blood python unless you've got a lot of experience with other high-end snakes. These are NOT beginner animals and they don't tolerate a lot of things that most keepers take for granted in a snake.

People that take-on a Blood without knowing what they're all about inevitably have a very bad experience and are often stuck with a snake nobody else wants.

There's a 'Blood python quirks (http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/python-curtus/92701-blood-python-quirks.html)' thread that will give you some insight into what they're all about.

as said carpets are MUCH more active, bloods don't really do much

most days a carpet, will be pacing around the tank,in hunting mode,or hanging off a few branches

imo they come in much better colours and patterns

their head shape and some of their eyes are pretty awesome

they are an easy species to keep

very forgiving if mistakes are made,an all round hardy species, with a nice strike and feeding response

cheers shaun

Considering the 2 snakes you have ... go for the carpet. Great snakes in every way and will forgive any handling errors 99% of the time. Once you have one you will see how great they are.

I second this. Then maybe down the road if you still want a blood do lots of research. Just take the time to study up on them. If you can fine some one with a blood and get a little hands on with one. Then if you still want one go for it.
