View Full Version : Time between sheds BRB
So I have had my brb for i guess two months. the day i picked him up from my friend I noticed that he was in pre shed which is fine, but now he is turning gray and going to shed again.
I ask because my burm python only shed once every 2-3 months so I find it odd that my BRB is on his second shed after only two months.
I rescued this BRB from my friend who had it in desert conditions, since I have had I have given him the proper temps and humidity. Do BRB's shed more frequently because of the humidty or is thier somthing wrong? :hmm:

Snakes shed more when younger and growing more, if they have mites or a wound they are trying to heal.

I have a baby BRB and he's been shedding every 2 weeks. How old is yours? He could also be growing faster now that he's in proper conditions
Any snake will shed often for two reasons:
1. It's eating a lot and grows out of its old sking often.
2. Trauma, parasites or bad husbandry.

My friend told me he was 1.5 years old when he got it from another guy who was giving him up. I could say he is 3 feet long but in a small 29 gallon tank . Buildimg a viv that to spec size for Brbs. I feed him every 10 days but now it will be another few days.
Once I figure out how to post pics I will post them.

That's odd. What do you mean by "baby"

3-6ish months.
I suspect he was underfed when I got him 2 months ago

Mine was born in September and was feeding on adult mice when I got her in December. She now eats 2 adult mice and she sheds an almost perfect shed. She goes into shed about every 2 to 3 feedings and I feed her weekly. She doesn't miss a meal during shed either.
My dumeril is 6 months old, and has shed 3 times in the last 3 months. She has also put on 210 g since march 30th when I started weighing her. She eats one 50g-60g rodent per week mice or small rats depending on what I can find. Shedding does not curb her appetite.

I have a (soon to be) 5-year-old Paraguayan Rainbow that sheds every 30-40 days, and that's without eating for months at a time.
I also have a (soon to be) 2-year-old Columbian Rainbow that sheds at the same intervals and that one sucks back medium rats, which is the same food size as her much larger and older friend above.
As mentioned in earlier responses, younger snakes shed more often. I recall a time when I barely got any social time with the young Columbian because she was either moulting or full, but as they get more mature, the time between sheds does tend to get longer - my Paraguayan seems to be an exception and I've made an appointment for her with a leading psycho analyst to get to the bottom of her issues of not eating and still moulting every month at her age. It wouldn't surprise me if she has Daddy issues - he was never around when she was growing-up :)
