Hubby and I bought the two day VIP pass. Totally not worth it. There weren't many vendors. The vendors I normally see at the Rocky Mountain Reptile Expo were great as usual, but the new vendors that came with Repticon were kind of lame. Anyway, here are a few pictures.

XB had some great stuff as usual. I got some Repashy from them, and gave them my email so that they can get a hold of me when a certain gecko hatches (super excited).

A great looking quince monitor from Old School Burms. Even though he was in shed, he looked amazing. By the way, if I ever get a burmese python, this is the only person I would ever get one through.

Terrarium Art had some AMAZING enclosures!

Another great vendor there was Altitude Exotics. They have some great and exotic geckos, like this Rhachodactylus leachianus.

Does the repticon come to you guys yearly??

Twisted Genetics is another great vendor that I'm familiar with. They have my dream boa (moonglow) for sale. I was really liking this girl, though.

Another great vendor was Sloan. They have very high quality ball pythons that make me regret getting out of ball pythons.

And of course I didn't leave empty handed. I got a thousand red runner roaches, and these two critters:

This was the first time Repticon came to Denver. I imagine that (as well as poor choice for location) was the reason it didn't have such a great turn out.

What are the two critters you picked up? They are awesome!

A probably male Colombian black and white tegu and a Cuban knight anole.

Cool! I might get a Cuban Knight Anole sometime in my future. I love anoles but alot of them are so tiny!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one disappointed by the size of the show. I was in and out in less than an hour. Most of the vendors there did have some great stuff though.

I can't remember the vendor name right now, but the first table on the left side facing the entrance kinda made me mad. They really didn't seem to know what they were talking about.

BarelyBreathing

Haha, yeah. That's where we got the knight anole from. When asked about proper temperatures, his response was "as long as he has a heat lamp it doesn't matter".

Just looking to make a quick buck.. Sad.... At least the little guy went to someone willing to find some REAL answers in regards to it's proper care..

#1...I am incredibly jealous of your Tegu.

#2 Holy poop the GTP's are cheap! they run around $700 here, $900 for adults. (give or take)

#3 did I mention I LOVE your Tegu?!?!?!?!?! :)

Were those nice looking circular cages for sale?

To be fair, I don't think that was actually that guy's table. I came at opening, noticed somebody else setting up, then he disappeared. I'm pretty sure that one guy was just helping out.

GTPs can run very low to very high in price, depending on breeding and locality.

I'm in love with my tegu, too. :)

Yes they were! They were VERY reasonably priced, too. They started at $80.

Correction: The medium sized ones were $80. I don't remember how much the small ones were.

The show was somewhat small, but given th fact that it was the first time for Repticon in denver, I think it was very good.
The ladies in charge came around & ask what they could do to make it better for next time.
They are planning for another in the fall & hopefully all the feedback about this show will help to make for a fantastic show the next time.
They want to try for a better location, more vendors, more guest speakers & better advertising, just to name a few of the improvement plans that were discussed.

The location couldn't have been better for me, Mac. It was twenty minutes from my house. :D

That's great that they were accepting feedback. I think that makes a huge difference in my attitude towards the whole thing. They also need a less cluttered layout. I know it's so simple, but those curtains that the RMRE uses makes a HUGE difference as to set up.

That's awesome. How big were the largest ones? Also, do you know who sold them? (sorry for all the questions, they're just so nice looking and I'm going to a show this coming Sunday, I'm crossing my fingers I'll see them)

The company is called Terrarium Art. If you go to the Repticon Denver website (Repticon Denver Main Page (http://www.repticon.com/denver.html)) and scroll down to the bottom you can see all the vendors. It doesn't look like they have a website, but if you click on their link you can email them.

your right about location for ones like you & I, but for those on the west side of town.:D

as for setup, they walked in pretty much blind as to building layout other than sq. footage & being that all the repticon setup crew flew in for the show, it made it hard on them to bring anything with them & the venue had nothing available for them to use.

they were really wanting all the feedback they could get from vendors. Dana & Patty want me to relay all feedback I see from all of you, so they have more input from everyone, to make the next show better for all.

That's understandable. Perhaps next time they can have a volunteer scout the location before hand? Also, the next time they have people pay extra for goody bags, they should make the contents of that bag less disposable and more reptile oriented. It's like "thanks for the fish food and the outdated catalog". Also, perhaps they shouldn't put the people with the dying monitor right in front. That was my very first impression of the show and it left a foul taste in my mouth. Or perhaps they shouldn't let dying animals be sold at all. :(

Hubby said a few more big names to commit to it as well. Most of the people there were locals who we were just going to see next month, anyway. We need more big name out of towners.

Maclyal

don't think they knew about the problem animal,do you know which vendor it was that had it? I will tell them about it.
hopefully they can get more big names in. Being the first show for them here, it is kinda hard to bring in big names. Those guys do big shows where there are big bucks to be spent. They didn't get to be big names without producing high end product & it seems denver doesn't have the buyers for that high priced product.
I know the vendors that do our denver shows bring the high end stuff, but usually take it home with them at the end of the show.
big out of town vendors can't afford to do that, so they stick to the big money shows like Tinley & ones like that.

I will pass along the info & hopefully we can talk some of the big boys into visiting one of the denver shows in the near future.

It was the black tree monitor right up front. It was severly dehydrated and its spine was showing.

Thanks for taking the effort to communicate and help resolve issues. I have no doubts it will be better next time.

So I want that tegu. What's the enclosure size for a adult tegu?

It depends on the species, but generally same rules apply as to housing a monitor. The minimum enclosure size would be twice the length of the animal in length, but I prefer three times the length.

There was also a frilled lizard right up front that looked very thin and sick. I think it might have been the same vendor, but I don't recall seeing the monitor you're referring to. This was also the same vendor that had about 30 baby savannah monitors in a big tank.

I doubt anybody in their right mind would knowingly pay that much money for a sick animal.

Hey Mac! Another suggestion that some of the other Repticons are doing. They have a vet there offering free vet checks for venders and cheap vet checks for people who buy their reptile at the show. That's definitely a great idea, considering the health of some of the animals.

Maclyal
04-16-12, 09:36 PM
thanks for all the info. I will pass on the info about the frilled also.
I will also tell Dana what was mentioned about the Vet. that's a great idea & if they do it at their other shows, then they should be open to locating one locally for our show.

keep the info & ideas coming.
Dana was saying they were discussing possible plans for another in the fall, so we only have a few months to get all the input possible & implement it.

thanks folks.
