View Full Version : Dumeril's Boa Question
I am planning on getting a Dumeril's and just wanted to get some advice from anyone who owns a Dumeril. I am planning on getting a AP 48Lx24Dx12H cage. I have been told that will be good for a full grown Dumeril. Planning on getting a male as I don't think I have the room for the rare 9ft female :wacky: This will be my second snake and I have heard only good things about these guys, so hoping that what I have planned will work!

Sweet good choice an dumeril is a good way to go I love mine males will get 5 to 6 foot so I would go with a little bigger cage an tub would be better hold humidity good I use reptibark as an substrate and just basic stuff pretty much set keep humidity around 65 percent I mist my once in the morning its gets to 85 percent humidity and throughout the day it will drop slowly to 60 or so perceent

That size should work fine as long as it doesn't true out to be a monster. Like he said Reptile bark works great. You will want to put it deep enough that he can burrow. Dumeril love to burrow.

That is a good cage selection and while I really doubt that youre going to get that "rare 9 ft female", however a male is the only way to be 100% sure.
I can say this from first hand experience, they are very mellow, the patterns very pretty and they are quite hardy. If you want a medium sized snake that is a pretty decent eater as well, then a Dum is the way to go. :)
Hey I just got a female dumeril. She is great. I ordered a proline modular enclosure 48" by 24" by 14". It is made from HDPE which I hear is much safer, but if you don't care about the type of plastic I hear the boaphile 421d is good. Many breeders keep monster dumerils in 4' by 2' enclosures. If it gets big take it out a lot to stretch. Taht is my plan. I haven't had a snake in a while, but I kept an adult male red tail in a 40 long breeder tank. He did come out to play a lot. I love my dumeril, and I think she will be big. she is 4 months old 465 grams and 32" long. I'm feeding her two mice every 8 days, because I cannot get rat pups. Once I switch her to small rats I will do one a week. She is currently in a 10 gallon tank waiting the 6 weeks for delivery of her new tank. I am just going to use newspaper or corrugated paper and some plastic hides, although she usually takes care of business in her water dish which makes clean up easy. She likes to soak especially before her shed, so when she gets big I will use a large rubbermaid container for her water. Anyway she is super tame and a great eater.
That is odd my last post isn't here. Any way 4' by 2' will be fine even for a big female.
