Imported these not too long ago.

"leucistic" Kings monitors. Although on closer inspection they are clearly not leucistic. Looks like a type of albino. Maybe T+ or something else but definately not leucistic.

The male is "100% het" and the female is the visual form. The female seems to be going through vitellogenesis so we may be seeing eggs in the next few weeks. For those who do not know, Varanus kingorum are the second smallest varanid. Full adult size is about a foot long. Very easy to manage and they are fun to watch! Not shy at all.

On a side note, the gentics have not been fully worked out as of yet. From what I have been told, it does not act completely recessive.

Here are the pics.

If I get a monitor I want one of them!

awesome. I'm curious, how does it not act completely recessive?

Some genetic anomalies are simple co dominant, meaning you may see visual morphs in the first litter without any line breeding.

I have snakes that produce visual morphs in their litters without breeding to a related (same bloodlines) animal.

I'm still learning with Monitors, so I may possibly be off base here.

I know how co-doms work, if that's what it was I figured he would've said that.

The truth is we do not know what it is in genetic terms yet. The problem is, these animals are produced and sold before the genetics have had a chance to be worked out completely. Not complaining though. LOL

One thing for sure, it is NOT leucistic. And it does seem to be working in a dominant/codominant way. We will be able to prove it out this season for sure. We have visuals and nonvisuals we will be breeding. Another thing for sure, it will be fun to prove out.

Genetics intrigue me in case you couldn't tell based on my other posts. I look forward to seeing how this project turns out.
