Awesome pics, thanks for sharing. I want one of those baby gators but it needs to stay little... I've gotta get to a bigger show. So many awesome critters there.

My cousin has set up the enclosure for the cali king snake she bought at the expo... Here is Analog's setup.... It's a 10gal tank, with a heat mat on a thermostat. Her temps, humidity, etc are spot on. I taught her well ;)

that looks awesome. I would put the water bowl on the bottom though.

edit: is this the cousin the rosy and sand were supposed to be for?

Kyle, yes, this is the snake for the cousin who's snakes have been so ****ed up for lately. Third time's a charm, right? Sigh. I feel really good about this one though. I throughly researched all the breeders that were at the show and knew who to buy from. He's a few months old and eating like a beast (he's the biggest among his siblings) and has a wonderful disposition.

I was wondering about the water bowl placing... We debated it a bit. When placed the rack to give him the second floor we put the water bowl up there and he was already exploring and I'm sure he's located it there. Plus it's easier for her to reach onto that top "floor" to change the water out more readily. Any real reason we should put it on the lower floor of the enclosure? Advice is always welcome :)

I think it would be fine on the rack thingy also thats a really cool setup

yay! I'm Alessia's cousin. Third time's a charm, right?!?! Analog seems to be settling in quite nicely to his humble abode :P Thanks Ale for helping me set it up. His room is nicer than mine hahaha.

That tank looks great for him, and I dont think there is any reason to put it down where it is hard to reach. Always want to make it easy to change it out regularly. I love the name Analog too! Has he eaten yet?

Since she just got him this past Saturday she is going to wait until Thursday or Friday to feed him. We'll let you know! :)

I think it would be beneficial to place it on the bottom for security. As analog gets bigger its possible for him to start pushing it and you don't want it falling on him because he was using it to support himself while going from the top to the bottom and accidentally pushed it off and onto himself, or he knocks out a leg and it all collapses on him, you DON'T want that to land on him.

You bring up a very good point. I hadn't thought about that. When he gets big enough/ strong enough to push the bowl, I'll have my cousin move it to the bottom floor. Right now that bowl is VERY heavy for the snake to even try to move it, so for now I feel OK with it there. Thanks for bringing that up! That's definitely something to watch out for.

and what are the chances the legs get knocked out?

Huh? I'm confused. Do you mean the legs of the little rack thing that makes up the second floor? It's all one piece. There's no way the legs of the rack can be knocked out or anything like that. :)

millertime89
11-14-11, 08:23 PM
yeah, that's what I meant, they look like they're a separate piece, regardless, they don't look very sturdy.

I can assure you they are. I'd trust it to hold my whole body weight. You could sit on it and it'd hold you up just fine. It's very sturdy ;)

Nope! Very sturdy! The rack is meant to hold plates, kitchen appliances, ect. It will absolutely hold the weight of Analog, and by the time he gets near-full-grown I will have gotten him a new tank and probably have a different set up. Thanks for the concern though!
