Eyelash Viper cage setup

Hey guys, So this is my GTP's cage setup. I was thinking about doing something very similar for an Eyelash Viper. There is a venomous snake expo coming up and you never know (:

My understanding (ive never worked with this species in captivity) is that eyelash vipers need higher then normal humidity, those enclosures have screen tops and by adding a lamp, you will rob it of any humidity it has.

Haha that is true, But thats why i said similar. Im also not so keen of a screen top because they can still envenomate you thru the screen. (Even though i will never lay my hand on it) But accidents happen.

Incidentally, keeping the thermometer and humidity gauge in the gtp enclosure that high won't really tell you what the temps/humidity are in the areas of the enclosure your gtp inhabits.

because that's how you uploaded it. it appears to be uploaded to the forum itself, if its like the most of the other vBulletin servers, you can rotate it from the upload screen. If you can't, find the image on your computer, rotate it there, and then upload it again. If you upload to photobucket or flikr you can rotate it there using their software as well. Just use the "edit photo" tool.

Hi Swiftsakater1. Actually the eyelash viper is my fiance's but I do most of the care, :-p

That setup would work for it, however you'd want to cover up most of the screen top. Using a radiant heat panel for heat would serve this purpose. While eyelash vipers do need very high humidity levels, they also need excellent ventilation or respiratory problems can occur. Using a "gentler" heat source like radiant heat panels or heat tape helps keep down the evaporation- heat lamps are very drying and should be avoided if possible.

Our eyelash viper is in a Critter Keeper right now- he's very little, and when they are babies they do not need much space. Paper towel is the bedding right now, and he has a fake vine bended into a twisty shape and some plastic plants in there. I mist him once in the morning for about 20 seconds, and again at night before I go to bed. This keeps the humidity up without sacrificing airflow.

I have the same viv for my GTP and I bought a zoomed Monsoon misting system it was expensive but it was the best investment I ever made. She has perfect sheds (eyecaps attached the shed looks like she crawled out if its mouth) and keeps the humidity perfect its on a timer so it goes off every 6 hours for a few seconds (completely programmable) so even with the screen top its still great

I have always loved vision cages. But the only concern is that there is only a few large vents on the top. So not much airflow.

Have you had any problems with the monsoon? I have always wanted one! i hear they break real easily though.

with the monsoon, can you set it up to mist multiple cages at once?

nope its perfect no problems at all we use distilled water so there is no calcium build up I think thats where the majority of the problems come from the unit gets junked up but its great we set it so that humidity is being added at regular intervals and so that the tank has some time to dry out a bit before the water turns on again, i tried using a fogger but the monsoon is the best
