Found this snake today swimming in the pool. It doesn't not strike when an object comes close to the snake. If somebody could please let me know what kind of snake I found I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Storeria Dekayi - Dekayi brown snake. They are so docile and "tame" that they make awesome little pets. They eat worms and garden slugs / snails.

storeria dekayi - Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1024&bih=587&q=storeria+dekayi&gbv=2&oq=storeria+&aq=0&aqi=g5&aql=undefined&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=3172l8219l0l11l11l1l2l2l0l281l1689l0.2.6l8)

Wow, good eye, but when you said brown snake I was immediately thinking of the 'hot' one.

hahah the one from Australia? he would be in some serious trouble if it was hahah.

@infernalis ive found these in my yard a few times, i can say one of the only snakes ive ever picked up in the wild that hasn't even attempted to bite me. So i personally second your statement about them being "tame".

People keep finding snakes in their yards and even though I live on almost a quarter of an acre I have never seen a snake around. Maybe my cat is scaring them all off. :(

I can underhand toss a bowling ball off my deck and into a creek from my backyard so there's all kinds of wildlife right on my doorstep.

you need to trap them lol not in a literal sense trap them pile up some old brush next to a running water layer in with some shingles leave it alone this year next year on a over cast day tare it apart find what you want take the pictures you want release the animals and do it all over again the next year.

Or you could not build habitats only to tear them apart, if you don't want them on your property simply remove hiding places. If you do, get scrap pieces of lumber and leave them in choice locations that way when you check under them you can replace them exactly where you found them so the snakes home is not lost.

if you want to see what wildlife roams around your homes, why not build alittle rockery, get an endoscope camera off ebay, connect it to your laptop and just (gently) prod through the cracks and holes in the rockery.

that way, you can see the wildlife and take there pictures without disturbing them and doing it this way, you save yourself from the possibility of getting into a potentially dangerous situation, should you ever pull a made habitat apart and find a venomous snake under it, as no doubt, by the time you realised, you wouldve been tagged.

this is the camera im talking about: WATERPROOF USB INSPECTION CAMERA ENDOSCOPE BORESCOPE | eBay UK (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WATERPROOF-USB-INSPECTION-CAMERA-ENDOSCOPE-BORESCOPE-/320705273812?pt=UK_CCTV&hash=item4aab861fd4#ht_1938wt_1018)

The next one I find I will do so. This little guy squeezed out today while I had him sitting outside to warm up since I keep my house so cold and didn't have a heat light or heat rock or anything for warmth. :( But thank you everybody for all your information. I really appreciate it. I will either find another snake soon or just go buy a ball python. Haven't decided yet.

PLease NEVER use a heat rock in a reptile enclosure - they WILL burn themselves on it - they used to be used all the time but since a string of injuries and deaths no reptile keeper will use them anymore.

I wish I had pointed out that Dekayi snakes like it cold... This species of snake prefers cool over warm.

Anyone reading this, please don't ever use a basking lamp with a Dekayi or Red Belly snake, they will cook and die.

This is an actual herping photo of one out and about at the first spring thaw, when other snakes are still hibernating...
