I've beenlooking for a carpet python similar to one I saw someone post up a while back (black primary with the yellow)

I recently came across a pair of ij babies in my local pet shop, they were black mostly with light brown looking off color. Anyone have any pics of carpets who started out this color and how they look older? The price for the pair is good enough I might eat their color pattern if they stll look good as adults.

Anyhow any help would be great!!

I'f you like the black and yellow ones I'd say they would be JCPs or JCP Xs. Shaun on here has a pair (at least I think their a pair) of cracking IJs. He'll soon pop up and see this thread and mybe nice enough to put some pics up...

Ya I think the breed I'm looking for are the jungles but I've seen some people postin of IJs with the same coloring. I guess I don't mind waiting to get another set of jcps though later on. I'm hoping to get into breeding when I finish getting out of the army in the next few months so I'm hoping to pick up a good couple of snakes in the near future , my wife has just asured me that if I get more than 3 before we get home she will kill me in my sleep lol

If you are planning on breeding down the line the best advise I can give you is have a set goal of what you are trying to achieve... as in what do you want the progeany to turn out like. Look at tons and tons of pics and breeders and their stock, then pick the ones you like with the look of the snakes you like to achieve a good match. It took me nearly two years to find a pair of JCPs for what I want to do and where I would like to go with them.

Thanks for the advice mate, I'm definitely doing a lot of research still. I would like to end up breeding carpets and trees. I've seen a couple offspring from a few breeders which are exactly what id like to sell, so hopefully when I get home and get setup to start I can look into grabbing a few offspring from said breeders. I'm very excited, I've wanted to do this my whole life and now thanks to getting %$&*ed up in iraq I can finally afford it lol.

If u don't mind id love to pick ur brain sometime on breeding and what not, I've been reading up as much as possible online but u kno its always nice to know more

Mate If you like the IJs don't let me sway you from them.... but as it still stands it will have to be accompanied with research. I personally don't have any experience with them as their not native to Oz. I would'nt imagine though that their too different to Darwins as it's a similar teritory that their from. As for breeding carpets shaunyboy would know more than me as I have not bred carpets before myself either.

Shaun they are an absolutely cracking pair mate.... I'm looking forward to some updated pics of them. I love how the tipping on your female is more of a blend than real "tipping" into the blacks.

decent jungles are hard to find over here in the uk

there are some very good german bloodlines in europe

in the usa there are a few decent carpet breeders

i will pm you a place you can do some research on breeders in your country

the 2nd set of pictures are of 2 types of jaguars

the jaguar morph is a pure coastal colour and pattern mutation

to make all the other jaguars out there you take a coastal jaguar then cross it with which ever snake you want to create

re irian jaguars
the first picture is of a 75% irian jaguar.

you cross, jag x irian jaya this creates 50% irian jags,then.....

take a hatchling grow it up and cross again with an irian jaya.that would up the percentage of irian to 75%.

the 75% reffering to the irian jaya influence in its genetic make up,so giving you 75% irian jags

once adult you can go on to breed it back to another irian, again raising the irian influence (this time to 88% irian jags)

re jungle jaguars
the other picture was of a 50% jungle jaguar

simply cross a coastal jaguar with a jungle to get 50% jungle 50% jaguar influence.these are called 50% jungle jags

if you then cross one of the 50% hatchlings back to a jungle you get 75% jungle jags.

if you crossed these 75% hatchlings to a jungle again you get 88% jungle jags

again a 88% to a jungle would give you 94% jungle jags

the higher the jungle influence usually means the brighter stronger yellow in the snake

the jaguar mutation is a co dominant gene so in theory when you breed a jaguar, you will get half the clutch come out as jaguars the other half as siblings

siblings are the snakes hatched that do NOT carry the jaguar gene so are in fact NOT jaguars

VERY informative, one problem ive had with trying to get into the breeding side of the world of snakes is that alot of the sites are very in depth and I havent dealt with genetics in detail since I was in school 6 years ago, so its kind of mind numbing right now, im trying to get back to it but the posts really help shaun!

Dont worry about the confusing stuff to start

Research the definition of:
Dominant genes
Co-Dominant genes
Recessive Genes
and (this is a rare one which has only happened to me once) parthenogenesis

Lets see if this works! Better pictures to come, this is just some quick cell phone pics while Im getting their new home setup. Ill get some close ups tomorrow after they have adjusted! They really are beautiful, im very very excited! Even the wife likes them (because they are small atm lol)

This is the larger one, I think was the female, more on that later lol....

And here is the smaller and believed male lol

Sorry the pictures are kind of shody....Ill get some good ones tomorrow, i love their patterns and colors, very happy :) And my wife throwing a huge fit infront of the guy who sold em helped with the price lol, not that it was intentional at all, she really did not want me getting the pair.

hahaha Let's hear it for the wife.

I love their pattern, especially the striped one because it sorta looks dangerous and similar to a hot one if I remember correctly.

Wait a week for the nice pics - they need time to settle down and adjust to their new home.

Good call , i guess im just too excited, but you are absolutely right. They seem to be settling in pretty well, and they are just an awe to look at :)
