I personaly love retics but for the average person they simply get too big to handle. Are you ready to buy a 8-10 by 3-4 foot viv? (minimum) are you ready to spend that much on food?
Ask questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

Can you house and look after an 18+ foot snake for the next thirty years? Will you have people to help you once it gets too big to handle solo? If so get a retic, if not get the jungle jag :)

Retics are def not for everyone. Let me ask you a question though. Do you prefer retics or carpets? You can get a SD retic for about 500-800$ they look like normals/albinos/sunfires etc and they max out at 8-9ft
I can pick up anything as long as it's less than 1000 bucks and i have a large tank but feeding the retic bunnys will get pricey.

SD's are much less girthy then some of the other mainlands, they will be on XL or XXL rats at the most. If you can get a hold of bunny pups i would though. Look up some of robs pics, give you a good idea on size.
Also keep in mind that sunfires generally get smaller then the other morphs for some reason so if you want the smallest SD possible ask the breeder about the parents and try for a sunfire.
Alright , i will give it a go . Thanks alot:)

Anyone know the laws about SD retics vs wild type? In NY state retics are illegal but if I could slide by with an SD in the future I totally would ha. I'm guessing NYS perceives no difference.

Cant hurt to call and ask. Read the way the law is worded aswel. In most of Ontario there is a law prohibiting retics, but there is a section at the bottom that reads "no animal with the potential to surpass 3 meters" so SD retics are legal there.

Omg is right!
To the OP: Think long and hard before getting a Retic. SD are probably a good stepping stone. Lot's of us here, myself included, would love to own a full sized retic, or burm, or nice big monitor, but just don't have the resources available. Just be sure to think ahead, and realistically. Asking questions here is a great start. :D

SD retics may be tiny(under 10 ft) but they still have crazy teeth and are strong as an ox. For a snake of their size their strength is only matched in my experience by baby green annies. They are escape artists and the feeding responces are a force to be reckoned with.
I didnt know they were illegal down here:confused:

Call your fish and game and ask. If they give you an answer you don't like, ask them to present you with proof, allot of the time they have a personal vendetta against a certain animal and give partial truths.

Retics are just stunning.
Don't think I will ever own one but who knows maybe in the future an SD retic might find it's way to me :D

Dont go to google for retic pics, half of those snakes aren't retics.

The new tanks by Sentec, animal plastics and boaphile have a gap in the middle of the tank where you insert a centre divider. They make it safe and easy to clean/feed the snakes.
Simply put the centre divider in and clean one side/put in the food, then remove it and let the snake eat, or remove it and coax the snake into the other side with your hook then replace the divider and clean the other side.
