hi people....

i guess i need your help...i've been looking for such a site for some time...
first of,i'm from myanmar, which i think most of you do not know...well,it's in south east asia between india and china...google it,you'll see the amazing facts of my motherland.. :D

okay,business....snakes aren't popular pets in my country...in fact, people eat them here....yet there are frequent street vendors who sell exotic pets...so the problem here is,almost all of the pets here don't get the attentive care like yours do...and the pet shops and sellers can't always get the owners the best tips...point is,i got a burmese vine snake[ahaetulla fonticincta] yesterday...or that's what i think;the seller didn't identify it properly...i googled some pics and facts and matched them with my snake..

so here are my questions:
1.i've learned that it eats fish.i tried feeding it but it wouldn't eat.how do i feed it? and how often? what else can i feed it? something like milk, maybe?
2.what is the best container/cage to keep it in? i now keep it inside a basket.and it's about 3 feet long.
3.how can i know its sex?

alright.i'm gonna thank you beforehand now....
have a nice day

Welcome to the forum!
Sorry I don't know any answers to help you out.
Just suggestions off the top of my head would be that it probably didn't eat because it's stressed out. let it get settled in and then try feeding it (probably a week or two) in this time only disturb it to change water and do other "housekeeping" things.

i agree with wolfus snakes wont eat while stressed out just give it some time it will be ok as far as containers go i have mine all five of them in a vivarium with two lights a day light and a night light , hidding logs, basking dishes, fake trees and i use either reptile bark or aspen bedding i prefer retile bark because it keeps the viv nice and humid get you a couple of gauges a hygrometer and a temp gauge i try to keep my setup at 80 degrees and 60-70% humidity just try to my your snake feel as comfortable as possible.

thanks for your replies...so i think i should just let it take its time, right?
and i can't get a vivarium like yours rubenj2....like i said, there's no proper that sells suitable gears for exotic pets...one nice viv you got..
and yeah,i couldn't find much info either...i just don't want it to be starved...

Most snakes can go a while without eating, as of right now i wouldn't be worrying about it starving. Once it gets settled in a week or two with no disturbances other than care try feeding it again, it will most likely eat.

If you have access to the materials you could probably build a similar cage fairly easily

will a typical fish tank do?

That depends on how big you need it to be and what the environment is like in your country. important aspects to consider are:
-will you be able to keep the temperature at what it needs to be?
-will you be able to keep the humidity at what it needs to be?
-is there a secure lid?
-is it the proper size for the reptile?

You probably wont need to worry about temperature and humidity seeing as it is native to your area, keep in mind not to leave the terrarium in direct sunlight.

I'm sure we'd all be glad to help you build something suitable.
:) But as for now, try not to bother him/her to much, like Wolfus said let them settle in for a few weeks.
As for the snake itself, not much info online it seems.
I did find a video of a bunch of them feeding, and it seems ( I have no volume for some reason! But there is someone doing some sort of commentary at the beginning ) they eat tiny minnows straight out of a pool. Here's link to one of the videos I found. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlRHNYUr-PU) Not sure if that's helpful at all. ;/
