View Full Version : Possible RI?

My female RTB does this weird thing where her throat puffs like a bullfrog. Sometimes while she's just slithering along I hear her hissing for no reason(maybe she's just always angry since the pregnancy?:). It doesn't sound raspy at all. I see no secretions or " bubble blowing" around her mouth/nostrils. Not very often but once in a while after drinking she drools. She's had mouth rot and and RI before and I knocked it out with several vials of Baytril, but this doesn't seem like the other times.
She is also housed with a male RTB and he shows no signs like this, so if it was RI he would have it too, right?

My local pet shop guy said the throat puffing can be normal if it's being defensive. Just wanted a few other opinions. Baytril is expensive so I don't want to buy it unless necesarry, he said it wasn't. What do you guys think?

Not sure if it is the same thing but my jcp puffs the neck throat area upwhen he is stressed, it stops after a minute or so.

all you can do for now is keep a close eye on the symptoms

i have not kept rtb's but with carpets in the early stages of a ri i crank the hot end temps up by 4 degrees this aids the snakes immune system.

you would have to check with rtb keepers to see if this method can be used on them

i hope it turns out to be just a quirk of the snake and not something bad mate

cheers shaun

Good luck, hope it turns out to be just defensive posturing.

She's done this for a while but with the pregnancy Baytrill wasn't an option.

Id say bump up the heat a bit just incase, I cant believe you still have them together now if she has it he surely will too perfect example of why its bad to keep them housed together. Plus she just gave birth to a rough litter give the poor girl a break lol
The mouth drooling definitly makes me worried, and out of all my rtbs Ive never seen throat puffing?? body puffing yes, thraot puffing sounds very odd to me

I seperated them now I was just pointing out they were housed together for months while she did this and he seems perfectly fine.
