Well, it was a whirlwind week getting the quarantine cages ready, but I did it and was able to pick up my scrub pair. These two hate me! (The female a little less than the male.) Amazing snakes these guys.....I just keep staring at them, Very beautiful. They track everything that moves. It will be very interesting working with them.:nerd:

I managed to snap a few pics after we wrangled them into their cages. They are super fast! The First Pic is the Male, Second is the Female. Third is their short term Cages. A renovated book shelf. (When they move out, I am thinking Hog nose!)

Beautiful Scrubs. Sound like i may need to buy stock in Band-aid and Neosporine. If they're haft as fast as my Retic was you won't know you got bit til after they do it. Might want to invested in wielders gloves. lol

They are settling in, I'll give them a week before I pull them out and attempt a photo session. I will feed them tomorrow. I am very certain they will eat I am equally certain that they will want to eat me! The book shelf cage did turn out well.I wasn't sure how it would work, but I had an idea in my head. Each level is heated with a 60 watt red bulb, basking temp is right around 98. when they get into the permanent cages they will get ceramics. They are currently covered with a sheet so they can settle a bit today.

very very nice scrubby's mate

scrubs are 1 of the first things i'll get once i have my own room to use as a snake room

they take up too much space for my present conditions

i know i've said it before but their heads make me think of dragons from medevial times

the scalation is nothing short of awsome and as you said mate they don't miss a thing when your in the room with them

glad to see your ozzy collection growing greg

i'm thinking the nice flowers in their tanks will give visitors to your house a false sense of security (oh look at the lovely snakes in the nice flowery tank, followed by a machine gun attack if they're daft enough to open the doors, haha)

cheers shaun

Very beautiful scrubs, Greg! Don't take it personally, scrubbies hate everyone! My Moluccan girl has days where she tolerates me and days where she just wants me to die with every breath. lol.
Scrubs are very smart snakes- they can get to recognize you to a certain degree and definitely will watch your every move.

Thanks all. I sure am looking forward to working with them. Just the little bit that I was able to handle them putting them in their cages was exciting. They sure are quick. Fed them yesterday, and as I suspected, there was no problems there. Luckily I had a long pair of tongs. Percy and Kim, I would sure love to see pics of your scrubs. And, Percy have you finished that cage yet?

Tryin to get my lazy mate off his bum and come wire it all up for me at the moment Greg. The background is secured and in, the waterfall works and the pond fitted fine. All i need is to get it all wired and hook up this new whiz bang thermostat lol. The pair that is going in there get on well so just deciding what i want to do with the hides as well.

So the male left me a little present this morning. This afternoon, I went in prepared to do battle. Gloves, sleeves shoes, etc. etc. I didn't get any pics, as it was strictly a go in, get you out, put you in a tub clean your cage, change your water, put you back in the cage deal. He did not strike at me once...... Until I put him back in the cage. Then, I think he hit the glass at least 6 times. :Wow:

Encouraged, I decided to do the same for the female, I handled her for a few minutes and again she didn't strike at me until I put her back. And the she made a half hearted lunge for my hand. I'll give them the next couple days of peace, and then we become friends.

All of mine are very cage protective and will readily bite you when you first go in there. I have found to wait till they are coiled up and quickly get your hand underneath them to be the best way to get younger scrubs out of their enclosure. Once they are out they are fine, but most of mine when young will pee and poo as soon as they get a fright. They do however grow out of it as they get older and get more size on them.
Once out of their cages they are quite happy and want to just explore ( only problem is that they are arboreal and try to go up to your face! A bite to the face is never fun!!! )
Either way mate i know you will be happy with scrubbies and if you only ever got to keep one species of python im sure they will be it!

Don't I know it. I told my wife. (Promised actually) That when the reptile show comes around all I will be shopping for is rats and a hook. They are really not so bad once they are out, but it is kind of like juggling trying to keep them away from your face.

You ever get the feeling you're being watched? I moved them to a less active are of the house. (My dungeon) They have been more active, and the male has been keeping an eye on me. Got a few pics yesterday, so enjoy.

Hey Presspirate, Bueatiful snakes. I am looking to make an enclose out of shelving similar to the one shown earlier in the thread. It appears you used real glass. WHat did you get to secure the glass and hinges. My hardware store has some hardware for that sorta thing but yours looks much "cleaner".

your a braver man than i mate

letting that scrub loose on your arm (especially after seeing your wifes bite marks)

i learned my lesson from one of my jungles (crazy bert)

just finished the sentence to my wife and kids

" heh look crazy berts calmed down loads "

when he attatched himself to the back of my head

the kids were rolling about laughing and my wife was in tears of laughter

teach me to go open my big mouth mate

She wanted to hold one and take a hit. I recommended gloves but she insisted. The male calms down in my presence, but he seems to not like my wife much. The female is pretty laid back, but she did get me once.
Like I said before, it's a juggling act keeping them away from your head. Of course I wont let my guard down around them.
Shaun, I'd hope your wife had the presence of mind to grab the camera when Crazy Bert latched on to the back of your head! Too funny mate!

Thanks Ryan,

Actually it is 1/8th inch acrylic It works for now, but it will be nowhere near strong enough when they are full grown. (That's why I have all of the latches)

As for glass hinges there is any number of varieties to choose from, your best bet would be to either go to a glass store, or run a search online.

We have Named them, Abyss (Male) Because Everytime I look at him, He is looking at me. Reminded me of the Nietzsche (http://www.quotationspage.com/quotes/Friedrich_Nietzsche/) quote.

Amenti (Female) My wife named her for the Egyptian halls of the dead.

Cool video! I was waiting for her to strike, but she actually seem relax. Hopefully they're mellowing out for you. Are you thinking about breeding them or are they pets only?
P.S. Love her head marking.

bighog85

I wouldn't say she was relaxed at all. I just don't think she could figure out what the camera was and wasn't warm enough to hit. Notice how she never left her "s" shape even when moving around? That is a snake that is just waiting for a warm face to present itself, lol.

presspirate
03-10-11, 02:52 PM
Your right there bighog. These snakes never seem to completely relax. I've come to learn when to wear gloves and when they are not necessary. They have "tamed" down quite a bit, but you do not want to make sudden or fast movements around them and always hold them at arms length. They are currently over 5 feet long and lightning fast. Luckily the bites don't hurt much.....yet. Unless they get you in a soft spot.

I'll try to get some pics this weekend, the female shed for the second time yesterday, she's looking gorgeous. Almost a light sand coloring. Unfortunately, she tends to use her shed as a diaper, so I could not save it.

Man they're beautiful. It's usually the beautiful one that are the big B-tches. I feel for you. When they go for the face it just always seem more personal. I had a baby Retic get me twice on the nose, but he wasn't as big as they are.

And the nose just doesn't stop bleeding! Turns out holding them at arms length isn't quite far enough

blindfireak40
03-27-11, 10:31 PM
Try just mumbling all the time and smoking a corncob pipe. That may also help with the growth of your arms.

Also find a woman with a horribly shrill voice and a horrible pun for a name, and get her kidnapped on a regular basis.
