I have a 6 foot red tail, the past 2 weeks I have put a little blanket over his aquarium to keep the temp about 85 to 90 and he has had severe dry skin, does anybody know why this would happen, I put the heat lamp over his water bowl so I know he is plenty humidified??? he has never had this problem before so please help if you know what is wrong thanks

Mist him, soak him give him food that has been soaked in warm water (excellent source of water!!). I'd get rid of the heat lamp over the water dish and just mist the cage instead.

i tried the heat lamp ove rthe waterbowl and yeah it really doesn't work for humidity. defnitely mist. i do. and if you have coconut substrate or the like it holds humidity amazingly.
