My friend said that he could be sneezing and having mucus come out of his nose because there might be a lot of dirt in his enclosure, that he never had before

the previous owners never gave him dirt so maybe he is just really reacting to the dirt getting into his nose?

It sounds like respiratory issues to me. I'm more of a snake person, but I do have a savannah monitor, and he has a mixture of dirt and sand 6 inches deep in his enclosure and has never had an issue with it. I would recommend getting your lizard to a good reptile veterinarian. It's better not to mess around with these things, IMHO. Best of luck.

Runny nose is not usually a good sign.

to Infernalis and Will:

im really worried about him, im going to wait a bit to see if its just a fluke or if he has any more mucus come out. until then he has been seperated from my other reptiles.

I think he is just overly sensitive to the dirt, hes never had dirt before so maybe it is just bothering him a lot.

My friend said thier bearded dragons have mucus come out of the nose too when they get some coconut husk in thier nose.

I gotta mention aswell that this wasnt a lot of mucus. it was like a little drop. barely noticable

so im hoping thats just what it is... but im extremely worried. If he starts showing more mucus or sneezes more then ill get him to a vet

thanks

thats most likely what i would do, if it does not get better or get any worse than i would go asap, maybe give your vet a call and just see what the wait time is like, just incase they say its ike a week or so and you leave it to make sure its worthy of a vet visit to have to wait a week at that point, just an idea, i cant see it being the dirt tho, i got mine in 50/50 potting soil, playsand mix and he eats it with all his roaches and digs around in it all the time, most days hes covered head to tail in a think layer of mud/dirt from going in his water bowl and then going for a dig session, and he shows no signs of anything like that, but maybe, Fingers crossed still.
