They look hefty! What can you tell us about the husbandry? Nice looking animals Mate! Well presspirate their husbandry is fairly standard python techniques. temps 88 degrees down to 78 degrees summer, when cooling for winter (now) drop to 70 degrees. A very easy snake to maintain, very relaxed and calm, does not grip on to you like other pythons, just an all round great snake. Feeding time is completly different, once a food item is placed in its viv, its head bobbing, tail wiggling, and jerking body movements till the prey is located. A real Jeckle and Hyde

I have seen some absolute crackers of photo's of these guy's trying to eat anything from couch's to magazines LOL. They definetely are characters thats for sure!!As with the blackheads they have a great feeding response, usually taking rodents as neonates with out problems, one of my breeding males has not eaten for 5 month and as soon as hes near a female hes breeding. Although both sexes go at least 3-4 months without feeding during their breeding cycle as a rule. Of course it is our breeding season now for these guys in the Uk

Very nice womos, pic # 3 is the color womas i really like, dark :) how are you womos at feeding time, my 2 dont strike and wrap their food, they both come up real gentle and calm, push their face into the rat for a few seconds and ever so gently bite them on the head and gently swallow it right away and sit at the front of the cage for round 2, they are so gentle and calm and very inquisitive, and i see what you mean, they dont seem to hold on when i pick them up lol it kinda funny that they are to lazy to worry about it, they just sit back and let me do all the work. :P

mine dont do any of that, just sit and chill and i grab the food when its damn near put on a plate and hand fed to them lol but they are the best eaters out of all my baby snakes tho, they never refuse food, infact they have started getting really fat so im going to limit their food for a few feedings.

i have to focus on getting a good male diamond,if finances allow then 2 males are what i'd preffer to have
i have a pair of high yellow reduced pattern pure irian jaya's from Ron.W in holland
these are f2 selectively line bred 09's and have a long way to go till bred though
i plan on producing a clutch of pure irians to see how many carry the reduced patterns
then i want to put the female to my 75% irian jag reduced pattern male (bred by mark harris of the uk)
hope to get some nice reduced pattern irian jags

Hello to you Shauny, as regards Mick anything i can do to help. I have to say Shaun although it is nice to receive admiration from other herpers, it often takes someone with knowledge and experience to fully appreciate the effort and years a fellow herper has put in, to maintan the collection He, OR She has.Because the person who does appreciate anothers achivements knows..... because they too have had to overcome the same problems, and put in the same effort, we are all inspired by each other, and we are all privilidged to share our lives with our chosen charges:)

wise words indeed my friend
i am but a mere apprentice in terms of years herping
i got into it late in life
it does not stop me appreciating the work folk like yourself have put in for many decades
it is people like you that have done so much for this hobby
investing your own time and money into ventures where little was known about how to keep things in captivity all those years ago
like our very own frank schofield one of the earliest pioneers in herping
i came along once most of the hard work was done mate
i must say it does not make it any less exciting for me
it does however provide peace of mind for me and a safety net for my collection having folk like you around
cheers shaun

Shaun you require no safety net, i was inspired by Frank, and whom has became a great friend of mine(he rather prefers the girlfriend, he does like the ladies)and i stood on the shoulders of giants in what 30 years ago was relatively misunderstood and virgin territory. I cringe to think how i kept my animals, i may have loved them, but if it was,nt for the strides others made in husbandry techniques, heating, lighting and enclosure design the whole hobby would not be what it is today. The advantages of people coming in to the hobby now is great, the advances made life saving to the species we keep... but these advantages are of only use to those who listen and those who share, we are all an apprentice, the hobby will move forward, and we will keep learning.......be proud of your achievments there are exciting times ahead:)
