Hi everyone.
I have a Halogen Heat Lamp at the moment. It is perfect for the daytime, but at night when the light is off, the temperature sometimes drops down to the low 70's. Winter is coming and my room is above my garage so in the summer its boiling and in the winter its freezing.
I'm considering getting another source of heat for night time and possibly daytime, but I'm not sure which would be the best:
1. Heat Pad
2. Infrared Light Bulb
3. Ceramic Light Bulb
I come here for your advice and knowledge.
Thank you,
Griffin

I like the ciramic heat dishes they work good, i also used the 50 watt heat corde, its much cheeper than the heat pads and you can design it the way you want, ie cover the floor and leave a cold spot. either way is up to you, if the air is getting cold, i would say use the heat dish as well as cord in the winter months, just keep them on a thermostat and you will be perfect.

IMO go for the ceramic. You can hook it to a rheostat if it gets too hot.

All our vivs, except the lizards, have ceramics, in my opinion they are so easy to use once they are setup that they are the obvious choice.

I still use infra red globes in most of mine, i feel these are easier to tell when they blow especially if you have nearly touch the ceramics to see if they are working.

Just use a heat gun to see if the ceramic is working. Also if it goes then the thermostat will be permanently ON as it tries to heat the cage, normally they are all pulsing ans the light on the stat will be flashing so it is easy to pick up when one goes.

i used infrared bulbs as they are cheaper. i have all mine hooked to a dimmer switch. i think it is more a matter of opinion whether to go with the ceramic bulb or the infra red one. infra red is cheaper initially but in the long run might be more expensive because you have to replace them more often.

Radiant heat panel on a thermostat is what I use....no problems and they pay themselves off.
