chemicals in the air

more things i like to know that i cant find on the net...

i know snakes have very sensitive jacobsons organ and would like to know can it hurt/aggitate/stress them if human is using chemicals like deodorans/parfume or something else in the same room they are in, cuz mine is in my bedroom...of course i wouldnt spray near her terarium but still...

for instance, dogs have highly sensitive smell, and hunting dogs shouldnt be alowed near strong chemical/unnatural smells because it may damage their smell...

another thing, not to open new thread, i have noticed/felt one place where she is not smooth, but it feels like scales/shells get stuck on my hand (not like they stab or something), like the one end of the shell is detached/not fully embraced the body/like small agnail feels when it rubbs on your skin...if you know what i mean...its a littlebit hard to explain especially on english...i think its nothing but would like to hear it from you, cuz im total newb when it comes to snakes...

The scales thing sounds like it could have caught on something?? I would leave it for one shed cycle and see how it is afterwards.

One of our corn snakes tried to escape through a hole that was too small and has been left with some rough scales that sound similar to what you are saying - we are hoping its next shed will clear the roughness.

its really just one little spot, but as i said i dont know much so i worry about every little thing...i tried to give it closer look, but she is moving, and when she stops i cant see that place (although i dont even know where it is until i feel it), but i didnt see any visual confirmation of what im feeling...

If she seems happy and healthy i wouldn't worry - most scale "damage" will be cured by the smake shedding.

Not too sure about that to be honest - we avoid any sort of polish etc around the vivariums but ours are in the living room rather than bedroom so we spray deodourant well away from them - have you thought of "spraying" in the bathroom instead - just in case?

i sometimes do it in bathroom, sometimes in bedroom, but since she is here i do it anywhere but in bedroom, as you say just in case...cuz ive heard of some people saying that their snakes go crazy soon after they bring food in the room, and that tells me enough about their perception of chemicals in the air...

i do not spray chemicals in the room i keep my snakes.

re the scales do you have a picture.

some times they can get an infection under the scales.pictures will help us a lot

My bathroom right next to my bedroom and my cages are about ten feet from the bathroom. I put on aftershave. It does make me wonder if they can tell when i walk in the room, because of my aftershave. Say compare to my wife walking in. All three of my carpets and rainbows always pop their heads out when i walk in, but not my wife or anyone else. I know some say snakes can tell the differents between people, but maybe it their secent. Could snakes tell different people apart by their smell? As far has the chemicals in the air i would say never spray in the same room.
