Shaunyboy, nice carpets! I especially love the diamond-man I would love to get one of those. I have an irian jaya male, a coastal male, a jungle/jag sib and a female jungle. Great snakes- carpets are one of my favorite pythons. emseeKAY, different subspecies of carpets get different sizes. Coastal carpets (Morelia spilota mcdowelli) get around 8 feet, occasionally a bit larger. Jungle carpets (Morelia spilota cheynei) only get 5-6 feet, and Irian Jayas (Morelia spilota variegata) get about 5-6 feet too.

many thanks to you all for your kind comments.my diamond is my pride and joy.pure diamonds are very hard to get hold of in the uk.in saying that over the next 2 to 3 years a few people i know will have diamonds up to breeding size so i might manage to get my hands on some more.i was very lucky to get a single female as they are usually only sold with a male diamond in pairs.i was lucky enough to be told of the advert for her 20 minutes after it was posted.i actually got her for a good price (£750) which again was highly unusual.pairs in europe go for around 2200 euros in the uk £2000 a pair.they are one of the most if not the most sought after carpets in the uk.to be honest they are the only carpet that sells almost instantainiously and hold they're price.the rest of the carpet market has took quite a fall probally down to this credit crunch our country is currently experiencing.but that said you YOU JUST CAN'T HAVE ENOUGH CARPETS...!!
all the best shaun

Actually they all get larger than stated here.
CCPs 8-10 ft+ some as large as 12ft, some folks say 14ft even
JCPs 6-8 ft+ usually around 6-7ft
IJs 6-7 ft+ usually in the 5-6ft range
Diamonds 7-10ft usually around 7-8ft
I think the big reason why most folks don't think they get as large as they can is due to too many people in a rush to breed them.
Folks never worry about growing the male big & once the females reach what some folks consider to be minimal breeding size/age they start breeding them, thus they never get a chance to reach their full size potentials.
Female carpets should be given at least 4 full years on a healthy, steady diet prior any breeding attempts. Too many breed them too young/small or powerfeed them to breed them younger as well.
Anyways I think this is where a lot of the size misconceptions come into play as many are never allowed to reach their full size potential, Mark
P.S. nice looking group there BTW :)
edit - I have personally owned at least 6 JCPs in the 7-8ft range, every adult I have owned ever actually. My adult CCPs I've owned have been 8ft+ My adult Diamonds are either 8ft & some are still apporaching that size. My adult IJs are all close to 6ft easy & the subadults are pushing 5ft now.

couldnt agree more re carpet sizes gonesnakee.we get a lot of people power feeding here in the uk.PERSONALLY I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH ANY TYPE OF POWER FEEDING OR BREEDING SNAKES THAT HAVE NOT REACHED THEIR PROPER ADULT SIZE (with carpets a minimum of 4 years of age).i was at a snake show a couple of years ago where a guy was trying to tell me,if i fed (powerfed) a jungle x jaguar python he was selling by the time it was 18 month old i could breed it (and make my money back).the guy wasnt too happy when i told him that would wreck said snake as it would be far too young to do that.needless to say i walked away from his stall as i would not risk buying snakes from a breeder with his mentality.it pays in the long run to buy your snakes from breeders who follow a code of putting the snakes welfare above all else.not the guys out there that only think of the money they can make and how quick they can achieve it.its like most things in life if you rush it then it usually dont turn out as well as if you take your time and do it properly.
