I just got a new BRB and wondering what is the best, I mean best, set up for him/her. He is about two feet, maybe a little longer. I have him in a 40 gallon tank, is that too big/ too small. Should i build a giant cage. Just want to make the best home for him. I have read things about rubbermaids and tanks but he is quite the climber.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

I think your current set-up is fine, just make sure there is no way for him to escape. They can be quite the little Houdinis. They do like a lot of room, as they tend to be very active at night. My only concern is that you keep your humidity high enough. Rainbow boas require a cooler temperature range than most other snakes: 75-85 is perfect for them, their basking spot should be no more than 85 degrees. 90 degrees will result in puking and possibly death, as their enzymes will denature. They need humidity comparable to the emerald tree boas; that is, around 70-80%. I have a Mist-King system hooked up that services my green tree python, my emerald tree boa, and my Peruvian rainbow boa (basically same thing environment-wise as the Brazilian rainbow boa). I have it set to mist for 30 seconds every other hour during the day from 8am-8pm and then again at midnight. I would recommend getting some form of misting system so you aren't driving yourself nuts remembering to mist your new boa 3-4 times a day. Other than that, they aren't hard to care for.

Another question..... How active are they supposed to be at night. He tends to come out rarely and is always hidden uder the substate???
