My boa is starting to be very reclusive. she is hiding more and more and when i first got her a couple weeks ago she was out of her hides ever night as soon as the lights went out now she still comes out but it is for a very brief amout of time. she is about ready to shed so im wondering if that has anything to do with it also she just ate a huge meal as soon as i noticed her behaving like this. im sure both of these have something to do with her behavior, but just wanted everyone's opinion on it. also when she comes out at night she likes to reach up high and almost stretch up towards the top of the cage as high as she can. i have two branches for climbing and the temps and humidity are good. anyone else have a boa that likes to poke at the top of the cage??

Thanks for the help

i used to have a 4 ft red tail boa that did the same thing basically. probly just trying 2 escape. they are escape artists. but just my opion. in the begining she was just getting a feel for the new enviorment probiley. good luck.

snakes usually hide away for a while during a shed cycle or after a meal. i wouldnt think you should worry about it. let her be if shes in shed and keep your humidity right and she'll be fine.

It's OK, Kmef07. I think it's a sign you're going to be a good snake keeper.

BTW, my BP also likes to climb to the top of the enclosure. When I start taking the locking clips off, he heads upward towards me, and as soon as I lift the top, he starts climbing out. Always interested in going someplace! Every snake I've ever had has done pretty much the same thing.
