:Wow: As I mentioned in my other post..
I am very interested in this Greek Tortoise at a pet shop.
I noticed that these Torts were sick. They took them to a vet and sure enough, they were.
The Greek one though, only had worms. He is real sweet and personalble.

He is in quarantein(?) and I will be able to get him in two weeks.
I have been reading soo much to make sure I know what I am doing and to care for this Tortie in the best and right/healthy way.
BUT now I am getting to the Hibernation part and I am ready to throw up my hands and just go back to getting another Iguana.
What should I do?
I really want to get this guy and give him a happy and long life but this Hibernation stuff has really go me stumped!
Your help and input is greatly welcomed.
I think it is a real shame that pet shops sell reptiles without the proper care sheets and do not tell THE TRUTH in what it takes to take care of reptiles in the right way. Unless you can do this, I think thay they should not sell them.
Thanks!

There is no need to Hiberbate (brumate) reptiles in captivity unless you are planning on cycling them for breeding.

In fact being relatively new, I wouldn't even advise it in an artifical brumation situation everything must be kept exactly so, and watched like a hawk, things can go wrong of not done properly that will result in illness, and possibly even death.

In short unless you are planning on breeding them....don't even worry about it.

alot of torties die in hibernation you have to know the weight and other things but like Brad says there is no need ive bred horsfeilds torties and didnt even cycle them also hermans tortoises they were the same! I personally would not let them hibernate but it s up to you of course! Good luck with them any way!
