Get the Comprehensive Corn Guide by Kathy Love, its probably the most complete book out there about them. Where you go to get a corn depends on where you are, if your willing to pay shipping, and what morph you want.

would a 50 gallon aquarium with a screen lid be good for an adult?
could i start out with an adult tank or is it good to build up to the larger tanks?

That would be just fine for an adult. I feel is much easier for you and the snake if you start out with smaller enclosures. Large open areas are very stressful, so it would take a lot to fill a 50 gallon, which you would have to remove every time you wanted to take the tiny little snake out. Something no bigger then a 10 gallon usually works best for little ones.
