hey all i was just wondering, with my baby corn i been handling/feeding for about 2-3 months, it seems like all it does is hide. I have it in a decent sized viv and all. However i have a cocnut hideout for it and all he ever does is hide in it. He does come out sometimes at night to poop though. But i rarely ever see him out. I have handled him alot and yet he still is stubborn/ always wanting to escape and leave my hand. Is this normal since he is still fairly young or should he be trained by now. Everytime i try to handle him with my hands/ fingers he always heads to the ground. Sometimes i just let himn slither around but he always trys to find a hiding point. He has shed and grown ..feeding on fuzzies. i am just wondering what i should best fo my baby corn.. lol

I think your snake is behaving normal. They usually come out at night when all is quiet. Keep doing what you are doing, but don't over do it. Maybe handle every 2 days or something. Both of my cornsnakes hide all the time. My daughter's is alot more inquisitive, it doesn't matter what time of day it is.
If he's eating, pooping and has healthy sheds then he's fine.
I'm sure he's alot more sensitive right after a shed as well.

I was going to mention. Go to www.cornsnakes.com for excellent information on cornsnakes.

You mention it has a coconut hide where it lives. Is that the only one? If so thats why it always hides there. If you don't already, make sure to have at least 3 hides for it, hotside, coldside & middle. Quite often snakes will hide where they are not comfortable because it is the only place offered. Multiple hides is something often overlooked in husbandry & can be very important for the thermoregulation of the specimen. Other than that sounds fairly typical as you are considiered to be a predator by the snake afterall. Mark

Screw,
Don't worry, it's totally normal. Remember, corns are primarily nocturnal hunters so cover of darkness makes them feel safe. I have 2 corns I've had for nearly a year & they still hide. As for trying to wriggle away during handling, that seems pretty normal too. They are pretty curious so once they get out, they like to explore. If you'd like to see him when he's active, trying watching him between 12-3am that's when mine seem most active. Be careful not to create too many vibrations either, that will simply scare him.
