View Full Version : They're here!
I have them all set-up and they are trying to blend into the cork bark right now... :P I havent figured out names yet though. Should I offer them food tonight of wait till they settle in?

CONGRATS!
You can try to offer food, but generally I wait a night or two, as they almost never eat the first night because of stress and figuring out what's happening!.
'They', are they two babies? How old? What colors or lineage?
Especially if they are babies, I wouldn't recommend disturbing them much for a week or so, just to try to reduce the stress.
Goodluck! And keep the questions coming, we're glad to help!
Two, I believe about 9 weeks old, I got them from Silent Truth :) Not sure actually about parents though I checked out Adams site... I figure I will know once they are old enough to sex.
Both are about the same size though one has white knees (so cute!) and the other is more of a rusty colour. They are in a 5 gallon kritter keeper with paper towel substrate, a slab of cork, a stick, and a lil quarter log house. I plan of finding a small pothos or fake plant that looks similar for them to hide on. Their feet felt so funny when I put them in the new cage! Basically they are pretending to be part of the bark and just staring a breathing... guess they are a lil shell shocked for right now. I am monitoring the temperatuve to see if I need to add a heat source.
The are just darling! Oh those lil eye lashes! Now I understand why people love cresties so much!

Congrats!! It's really exciting when you first get cresties. I still remember when I did lol. It doesn't hurt to put CGD, a fruit mixture etc... in on the first night imo. I've had cresties go nuts for food while others that take a number of days to want to eat... really depends on the crestie, stress level etc... Good luck with your new additions.

Welcome to the world of Cresties! At least it's a legal addiction. ;)
Being moved to a new home might stress them out to the point where they're too scared to venture around much or eat, so don't worry too much. It could take even a week before they act normal and eat like pigs. The nice thing about cresties is that they do eat fruit so you can put some in with them in case they feel like eating. At this stage when they're still new and possibly scared they might be stressed more by having crickets running around but fruit mix or CGD is pretty good to tide them over the rough time.
They were curled up under the paper towel this morning and the temp was at about 69 degrees, so I will add a heat light above their enclosure... high enough not to melt the lid but close enough to add several degrees abient temperature.
Well I discovered three important things today while blending up some fruit mixture... first is that mangos have strange pits in their center! Second, my cresties don't care for eating right now... third, and most importantly, I am allergic to mango :| I ate a small slice and within minuites my tongue and throat feel tingly and sorta numb. lol, wont be stealing their food anything soon!
I am actually hoping both are girls... getting two hatchlings seemed the finacially more sound idea... and if one is a boy , or both! I can seperate them. I also get the fun of watching them grow.
Anyone keep their cresties by the computer? I am trying to figure out if this would upset them (the sound of the fan and god knows what else the computer does that we can't detect).
Thanks for everyones comments! I will feel a lot better when I see them eat! I think getting some fake plants will be first thing on tomorrow agenda so they feel more secure.

Topaz, when you say 'by the computer', do you mean by the tower, or by the monitor? If by the tower, the problems I could forsee is that there might be dust kicked up by the fans, which wouldn't be encountered if you had them somewhere else. Other than that, they should be save from most other dangers of the tower because of it's case.
By the monitor might be a problem if you use the computer during their 'night' time, as the light given off from the monitor might disturb their natural day/night cycle.
Mine are all in my computer room, but on the opposite wall. I have a dimmer switch on the light in the room, and that way when it's their 'night' time, I just dim the lights down really low, or keep a light concentrated on my work area such that it doesn't light up the room. This way works really well for everyone, as they have been growing very well with no signs of stress.
They were probably under the paper towel for heat, but it could also be to keep secure/hidden. Sounds from previous descriptions that you have lots of hiding places though, so they should be fine. Bumping the temperature up a couple degrees F would probably be a good idea, especially in the daytime. It will help them grow big and strong for you. This time of year I keep my gang at about 72-74 during the day, and they go down to 69-70 at night. None of them are as little as your guys, so I think they can handle the cooler temps a bit better.
Goodluck with them!

Hey Topez
Congrats on the babie. Bet your finding them adorable!!! I started out with Cresteds last August and I don't regret it one way. Be aware though like Dragon Drop said they are an addiction!!! I now have 7 and I'm getting some more in January when I get some more money! Any ways hope the little guys are doing good, keep up posted on how they do. Eventually when they are not so stressed get us some pictures.
Oh as for the computer idea I have mine on a little table like thingy besides my desk but at night I make sure the light is away from the cages and concentrated on the desk and my monitor is tilted away slightly from the cage. It's so nice to look over at night when their out and see them roaming their cage. Now if I could just program myself to stay awake in the dark, all should be good.

Some of my cresties and gargoyles (and leopards and AFTs and hognoses and .... ) are in the livingroom. I've got a standing rule that anyone in that room at 2 a.m. has to turn the lights out by then. Until 2 am on any day you can bet money that the computer is on, the ceiling light and radio as well. It hasn't affected any of mine as far as I can tell - they all act just like the ones in the other rooms and hallways which can be dark all evening once the sun has set.
