I saw on a N.E.R.D. care sheet for green anacondas that the record size for such animal is 37.5 feet even tho i was positive that the largest snake ever recorded was 33 feet

was i wrong or was there a major typo at N.E.R.D.

heres the link:http://www.newenglandreptile.com/CareGConda.html look under "size" (duh lol)

I think the largest snake ever recorded is 32'11"......an inch shy of 33ft, and I also believe it was a reticulated python. I am pretty sure there have been a few annacondas and other retics measured at over 33ft but under the above record. I'm pretty sure thats a mistake.

According to Guinness World Records it is 32ft 9.5inches and was a reticulated python.

How can they be longer than 33 ft and be under the above record?

What the record is depends on what kind of proof you require. Explorers have claimed to have seen massive specimens, but there is a lack of documentary evidence so the 33'9" retic is generally believed to be the record holder.

They must be talking about an anaconda told of by petroleum geologists in Colombia (i think) back in 1960. According to them the snake was over 37 feet. But they couldn't prove that, so i don't think that record stands by anybody's book (except NERD, then).
I think one of the largest anacondas ever documented is one found dead by explorer Ponssuelo, when he was searching for indian tribes. I don't know how long or heavy, but she was massive (see National geographic magazine 2003-August issue).

Its usually hard evidence that wins the record. Though i remember reading somewhere reticulateds are usually larger than condas.. could be wrong..
I worked in a petstore for a while that had a 22 ft reticulated.. She was super friendly as i had to ride in a car with her wrapped around my body.. i guess you make freinds real quick that way..
