View Full Version : sudden, inexplicable death?

This isn't really a question for me, as I have a pretty little kingsnake who's doing just great...

However, two of my friends had a cornsnake, I believe it was about 3 years old or so, and it just died late Saturday night, completely inexblicably. It was live and looking great Saturday night, and then about two hours later, one of my friends walked in their computer room to find the snake belly-up in his tank. They have never neglected him and had taken the best care of him. He was always feisty, active and adventurous and a great eater, and he was religiously fed and watered [not overfed or underfed...] and his temperature and humidity were right on, and he showed no signs of any health problems or anything AT ALL.

The only thing they found afterward were a couple of neon green 'pee balls', versus the regular white, but are still none the wiser to the cause of the snakes death. The only information they have found so far is that inexplicable death seems to be one of the two most common problems amongst cornsnakes, due to inbreeding to achieve certain variations. Theirs was a ghost corn...

SO...if anyone could help me out by giving me any speculations or explanations as to why it could have possible died, that would be wonderful and very appreciated.

refrigerate the snake and take it to a vet for a necropsy, that is the only sure way to know what it died from.
