Im getting my first snake come october. Im going to get a ball python and i need to know a few things. One thing i need to know is, if it is better to put a hiding spot over top of the water dish to make the snake feel secure while its soaking, or leave it open. And if keeping the humidity in the aquarium is really important or if its something that dosnt really matter. i need advise from an EXPERIENCED owner please!

October is a long way away, sounds like you have lots of time to do some homework and read up on balls before you get it. If I were you I would use google.ca and look up ball python care sheets and grab some books on ball pythons so you'll be ready for it.

BPs don't really soak unless they're in shed, so you could put a hide over the water dish when your snake is in shed for privacy, but otherwise I really wouldn't worry about it.

First of all, let me commend you on beginning your research BEFORE you buy your snake and not scrambling for info once your acquired him, good for you. Now, to answer your question, I do not keep hides over any of my dished, it's just not needed. Not a bad idea, but definitely not necessary. If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me and I'll do my best to answer them. Keep learning.

i must have fail to mention that i do know how to care for ball pythons. I have read many books and uncountable online references, but i wanted information first hand from an owner on some questions i had.
