Hey everyone. i was just wondering if anyone knows where I could get a solid red crested gecko? I have looked everywhere and I see all of you guys having amazing red crested geckos and I am just wondering where you got them? Whenever I find something that I really like, a red crested gecko, somewhere in the states it is allways to expensive to get them shipped. For example there was an amazing crested gecko for sale at dragon dens and it turned out to be $200 us which was perfect untill i found out I had to pay a minimum of $500 to get it shipped here. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyones knows where I could get a nice solid red crested gecko for around $200 canadian and I was also wondering where all of you got yours?

Thank You

To reduce shipping costs from the USA, you can pick up the gecko at a FedEx in the USA, and then drive the gecko across. There is a recent thread on this in this forum, check it out! It could save you some serious $$$!

Good luck finding your red!

You have to understand most reds are grey or white until they are close to sexual maturity. The colour goes on and off like a light switch. Even the ones I got from dragons den turn yellowish white during the day. It's frustrating but it's nature. I'm sure there's a lot of people out there with reds they're just holding on to them until they can sell a red gecko.. I have six neon orange/reds two are looking to be harlequins. One remains red most of the time (crossing my fingers) and the other is grey. I'll take a picture of colour change as an example. You could try Doug he has some nice reds in his collection. Goodluck!

Just to back up what Little_Dragon said about red cresties:

Here's my Lil Red Ridinghood in her dull daytime pyjamas and her painted woman look for night time

:bugged:

See her during the day and you wouldn't give her a second look. Let her wake up, paint her face and comb her hair .... and WOWEEEeeeeeee ..... completely different crestie. So don't overlook one that is labeled red but looks blah and dull.

Ok, just out of curiousity. I have a crested gecko baby, its mother is yellow and the dad is dark olive (dark green). It is about 3 weeks old and it consistantly has a whitish greyish color to it that never goes away. Is the any chance that that could turn out to be a red crested gecko? What else could it turn out to be, a moonglow? I know the first couple months don't say anything about the true color that the gecko is going to turnout to be but just out of your opinions what do you think. Unfortunatly I don't have a pic but it looks exactly like a pic in "The Crested Gecko in Captivity, by Robbie Hamper. If you guys have the book it is on page 43 at the beginnin of the capter. Does that whitish greyish color say anything to what its going to look like when it grows up?

Thank You

I'm holding all my cresteds back until september. By then their potential colour should start to show. Too many babies to keep!

Sooo your looking for a red?

I know that my wife loves them RED! Right now we curently have 2 juvie reds from Doug, and we also one that we bought 2 years ago when we first started with cresties. The one we got 2 years ago we bought as a hatchling and we were told he was a "red" (knowing what we do now, I'm not sure how the seller knew he was red). Well, he's a buckskin dalmation with the name "Red". At least that's what we thought! Remember this little guy is 2 years old. When we got home tonight he was sitting on top of his coconut shell and a bright flaming red color! Untill this very night we have never seen him any color other than various shades of tan. So, I sit here thinking that by calling him "Red" we've brought out some lost type of color mutation LOL.

Best of luck finding an amazing red, but as DragnDrop said you've really got to keep your eye's open.

One helpful 'hint' to look for reds and it's only a hint, not guaranteed clue -- look under the chin, around the neck and 'cheeks'. If it looks pink, there's a possible red crestie in the making. If it's deep pink towards red, that's even better. I find my red ones never get those areas to change colour very well, there's always a trace of red left no matter how awake or sleepy they are. Mind you, some of the rust or brown will do a good job of having a red neck sometimes too, but it usually has more of a brown tinge. It takes a bit of practise, but you can learn to read their possible colours long before they show them properly.

By the way, the baby crested that Ihave that had a mother that was yellow and a dad that was green (olive), it is always whitish grey and I belive one time it did have a bit of pink in it. Is there any possibility that it could turn out red.
