This was not a planned clutch at all. Flashback to sometime in April...we always put our snakes in rubbermaid containers when their tanks are being cleaned. One of us goofed for sure...a male opal and a femal pewter ended up in the same container during cleaning.

When we discovered our mistake, we weren't too concerned. They each were at the opposite end of the large container. When the female pewter went off her food about 3 weeks ago, I was sure she was due for a shed...but her ravenous appetite didn't return as expected. Wait a minute...and the flashback was clear as day. My husband laughed when I said she was gravid...but upon further examination, he agreed. Her belly was thick and looked like she had just eaten her adult mouse.

Woke up to this yesterday morning...got this pic before removing mom...

and here's a clearer one of just the eggs....

9 beautiful white eggs are now incubating. I think I will need to keep a pair of these babies for sure. They will be Normals, but with charcoal, amel, lavender and bloodred pattern for hets, the F2 generation could have many surprises in store.

Moral of this story: Just be careful, sometimes you get more than you ask for.

Congrats on the suprise clutch - should be interesting. Those guys can be really fast!!

I put a ghost female (that was probed as a girl and I sold as a yearling, but took back when the person who bought her said she had seen everted hemipenes) in with one of my mature males to confirm the sex (some of these always seem to probe at 5 scales for me!) and he was on her faster than I could believe! Guess the frustration of not getting any action this year had an effect.

Any info on how charcoal and lavender work - does charcoal mask lavender like anery A does?

Best of luck with these eggs and look forward to seeing the results of the F2 some time in the future,

mary v.

Simon...she should look familiar eh! When we brought her home last November we just couldn't believe she would grow like a bad weed and didn't really count on having her ready for this year. Guess she proved us wrong. And that Opal male is one of yours too...now I just hope he is as frisky and successful next year with his 'intended mate', a female Opal.

Now I can't keep them all...just a pair for sure, well maybe an extra female...am just hoping for a male this time...last year my one and only clutch produced all females. Some would call that exceptional luck, but here's hoping that this particular clutch will yield me both males and females.

Mary...I am not sure if the 'masking' is similar with charcoal and lavender. I will definitely have to do some research there. Maybe Simon has more info on that? Or anyone else?

Hanney.

Is that you Ruth?
............
I was wondering who else has opals and pewters in their collection.......
If you're Ruth...OMG!!!!! LOL!~ Throughout all this time I thought that you were someone else...and I was wondering why I never see you on this forum...cause I never knew that it was you.....haahhahaahh if not......hahah please refresh my shortest memory in the world.....hahah

As for the charcoal and lavender match.
Well by theory, Charcoal and Lavender can exist on the same animal. But there wont be any difference in the looks...they'll be the same as the anery a lavender. Wouldn't be able to tell the difference until breeding time. This is all I know about the Charcoal Lavenders. But even so, having Amel Bloodreds, Lavender Bloodred, Charocal Bloodred, Opal Bloodred, Blizzard Bloodred, Bloodred, Amel, Charcoal, Lavender, Charcoal Lavender Bloodred in a batch would be sooooooooooooo nice!! hahaha (heck I might have miss some in the combo too...hahah)

of course Simon...who else?...Jeff and I are so pleased with all our snakes from you.

Now you know why we said, "I wish but I can't" to the proven adults you have available. We have 52 eggs of our own with still another 2 females in their lay boxes. Not a lot by 'your standards' (LOL) but I really meant it when I said I have no more room.

Both the butter and the lavender females are large enough to breed as well, but I haven't decided yet if I am up to another 3 clutches...although producing my own lavenders and opals (that male opal is now proven for sure) would be a highlight for me. We are planning on double clutching our ghost with Simon, the crimson (the one you said, why don't you name him after me?), so what's another two? Especially if the pairings will give me butters, lavenders and opals. The butter's mate will be the original male butter we first purchased from you in early 2003 in London.

And here I always thought you knew it was us? :D

Yes...understandable.
But I think that you should email me....
Send me an email and we'll talk about this in the email. I think that you might have a couple of additions to your collection soon.....so just drop me a line

I knew that the female lavender could be big enough to breed this year. But of course it wouldn't hurt to go for the breeding next year. If you have any doubts about being able to feed your future hatchlings, just let the breeding slow down a bit. NEVER rush things. Not good for you or the snakes. I know what you mean by having a clutch of lavenders and opals would be awesome~ but like I said, if you have doubts in yourself, then don't go for it yet. Plan better for next year and this would be a lot better.

So you're planning to breed "Simon" to a ghost? Get Hypo het anerys? But that would kind of 'ruin' the Crimson (he's so pretty!!) Cause Crimsons are basically Hypo version of Miamis. Miamis are sort of (depending on how you look at Miamis) are selectively bred trait. So adding the ghost which is not a selectively bred trait, would sort of and kind of 'ruin' the selective breeding.

Simon,

Well 'Simon's real mate' is the crimson female we got when we purchased the miami pair, but he is very determined to have a "lady". Food is secondary to his instincts at this point, he wants a lady for sure. Purpose here is to produce some hypos for myself, the crimson line will come in 2006 or 2007 when "Scarlett" is old enough to be interested. The only other 'hypo' I have in the stock is a female I got from you at one of the shows.

Didn't mean to sound 'unsure' or 'in doubt' about 'hatchlings' or 'later' plans for some matches. Racks are ready, rubbermaids are all set, and I have 'pinkies' on order to supplement what I can't produce myself. First hatchlings are due next week, then every 2 weeks after that. So 'organization' wise I am there.

The second or later matchups, are still 'iffy' at this point only because I don't know whether I am going back to work full time in the fall; that for sure will deplete my available time.

Yes, most our high end morphs have the 'honour' of being from Extremesnakes. Next year is the year for most of our stock from you to be 'breedable'...can't wait for sure.

Will send that email...hmmm, new additions eh?

Here's a pic of "Simon" (the snake) just so you can see him upclose. He is a beaut.

Hope you enjoy seeing him again.

Hey Simon is growing up really nicely there~
The silver background that it used to have seems to have washed out a bit. But you can still see the coloring in the first half of the body. He's really nice. And I can see that he is being 'all man' with his breeding. Which is good, at least that proves that I didn't sell out an incorrectly sexed corn~ (Haven't had that yet, but hey its bound to come someday...I can see it already...hahah even though I do double check before I sell anything out, I think that I am bound to run into that....)

Yes planning ahead for breeding is good.
Like I have said, never hurts to wait another year. Its always a good thing for you (to prepare yourself) and for the snake (to let it mature both mentally and physically. They usually would give you a bigger clutch size if they were more mature that way.

Next year for sure breed all those 'hi end' morpsh that you got from me. They surely are going to be ready. Cause if I remember correctly most of those are already a year old when you got them from me. This year their second year and next being 3 years old is good enough to breed.

Best of luck with the breeding!!
Make sure you keep me posted I would love to see some of your snakes later on. Even though I might not be breeding anymore at least seeing my 'grand-children' breed and see what they produce would make me REALLY HAPPY!!

Hey and maybe later on when I come back to Canada, I'll be buying from you and Jeff too!!!
