On the phone, a prospective buyer asked if my cornsnakes were albino's. I said no, they are of regular coloring (worried and thinking I might lose a sale). He said "great, cuz albino's are usually meaner" and he was looking for a really docile snake.
Do you guys know of albino's being meaner? There are some mean snakes, and some nice docile ones. Does anybody know if it actually relates to their coloring? Maybe lots of inbreeding will make mean snakes?

My albino is docile as can be :-). I didnt think it would make a differnce cause its just a difference in color isnt it?

my first 2 corn snakes were normal and albino babies. the normal was always just calm and when i picked her up she just sat there and didnt mind. the albino turned into a rattler snake when i even got near her. she curled up, pulled her head back and rattled her tail like crazy. it was so adorable and she never struck. shed sometimes continue to do it in my hand after i picked her up but shed give up in seconds. that was the only time i had ever seen that. i use to work at a petstore and handled all types of corns and all were friendly. so maybe some albinos can be meaner, the albino baby king snakes seemd meaner than the normals.

to me i figure it all depends on the snake... it may have nothing to do with colour but instead just seems that thoes are meaner...

I agree, it all depends on the snake, inbreeding probably plays a role, and how much the snake is handled as well. But I have 1.2 amels which are albinos, and a snow corn, also a type of albino. All my corns are docile. I have one okettee that is a bit more nervous than the rest but she was bought young by someone else and never handled. I got her at 2 years of age and she is a bit skittish but never has rattled or taken a strike at me, only a bit more flighty than my others and harder to keep still. I've had her for a year and already she has calmed down tramendously and is almost as calm as my other corns. I had a normal baby as well who also was quite flighty for the first little bit and calmed down within a couple months with regular handling. Now milk snakes on the other hand are a whole other story. lol.

Makes zero difference IMHO & I've bred/seen a lot of Corn snakes. Mark
P.S. meanest 2 I ever had were an Anery & a reg not that it makes a difference.

What would make a corn start off kinda nice and accepting, and then go mean? I gave one of the babies I hatched to a friend, and after awhile, it just started snapping at him, and striking at him and hitting the glass when he walked by the tank. (he tells me it was well fed). And another one that I still have is doing the same to me now. This snake is crazy !! Out of a batch of 20, there are only 2 that I know of that went mean.

I don't think color has anything to do with it either. I think that each animal (like anything and anyone) has its own personality. We have 1 normal corn male (het for anery - not that I think it makes a difference) and his name is Rattlesnake because he loves to be intimidating. He almost always rattles his tale and never stikes. Such a fussy eater too has to be just right. We had a Anery Female (het for snow) who was so docile and relaxed that she whould just sit in your hands and flake! She was awsome and layed us 16 eggs, unfortunatley we lost her to a RI only a short time ago. We also have another normal female and she is very relaxed as well.

I haven't experienced any different behaviour related to color. However sometime in the last 10 years(forgive me b/c my memory is crap) I had a reptile article from one of the herp magazines on albinism. The article stated that "albino" reptiles exibited more aggression than normal coloured animals. They used for refence pics a pacman frog, burmese python, and a tiger salamander. I've kept normal, amels, anerys and haven't noticed any difference in temperment just because of colour.
