It's been a long wait but......after a March 23rd pre-lay shed and 14 days of hair-pulling anguish, Rocky (F-normal) layed her eggs. She didn't eat from day one...we witnessed the act...so she never really bulged with eggs. But she had them alright...10 beautiful white shells.

Now the countdown begins....

Here's a pick of Rocky and her 'man'...Ramses (Caramel).

1 down, and 2 more to go......busy for sure.

Congrats on the perfect clutch - now the next wait begins - seems so much of breeding snakes is waiting for the next stage. It is just so much fun when they hatch though!

Nice pair of corns,

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Simon....Rocky, mom, is the first corn that I ever 'allowed' in the house. She was purchased from the show in the days when we were at the other building. I have no idea what she could possibly be het for...in those days I had no interest in corns or snakes of any kind, so I never asked.

This clutch will be normal, het caramel, but what else is in the mix will be a 'total' surprise if one 'pops' out. I do know that the male fathered a clutch last year with our Ghost and one of the yearlings is now really showing the 'caramelly' background of her dad. She is a normal and I am patiently awaiting each shed she goes thru. So I am really curious to see if the same 'effect' occurs here, with the 'hypo' gene not in the mix.

Pics of the eggs...well I will get some posted tomorrow, hopefully. My amel female is in pre-lay shed...crossed her with my snow. I hope she doesn't go 14 days too...just hate that wait.

Would be great if you could post some pics of your young female from the clutch last year - it is interesting how the caramel influence seems to come through. I have a clutch of amels het butter and most of those I held back show a lot more yellow than the other amels that aren't het caramel.

Hanneys,

Yes this is why we (as in a lot of people including myself and some other breeders in the States) thinks that the caramel affect does actually give a great 'boost' of yellow coloration on the phenotype even though the animal is only a het for caramel. I have a couple of amel striped that are possible het for caramel, but with the amount of yellow showing up on them, I can basicaly gurantee that they are actually het for caramel instead of that 'possible' het thing.

This goes the same with your normal het caramel.
Wait until she grows up a bit more, you'll totally be amazed at her coloring with the bright yellow as background. She is going to be awesome~~

Oh I know what you mean about the wait. Sucks!
But hey, if you have a lot of females, the wait doesn't seem that long...hahahhahaah

Simon....here are the eggs as requested. I must say eggs are certainly easier to 'photo' than yearlings. They are looking really good and I am very happy, needless to say.

And Mary....I have taken 2 photos for you. The first is Gypsy, #1 out of the clutch last year (ghost x caramel). She was my problem eater so I held her back...glad I did because she has 'yellow', just not as bright as her sibling.

This is Fleur; last hatchling of the clutch; she needed assistance out of the egg....kept her back strictly for sentimental reasons. I don't know if the pic will show just how more 'caramel' then 'orange' she is becoming. Each shed seems to get more 'golden'.

Hope you can see the difference on film...it is very noticeable in real time.

Enjoy

how long do they takew to hatch?

Simon

Craggy,

With close to 100% humidity, around 80-85F for incubation, they should take about 60 days to hatch. The lower the incubation temperature, the longer it would take.

Just an update:

We are still (im)patiently waiting for clutch #2 and #3 to be laid....

The amel female, bred to a snow male, is already 12 days post shed and living in her lay box.

The ghost female, bred to an anery male is at day 8 post shed. Last year she laid on day 9.....

So.....keep your fingers crossed, and your toes too.

I think waiting for the 'lay' is worse than waiting for the 'hatch'....will post when "Lay Day" arrives and hopefully in all the excitement will get some pics.
