Hey,

I got my first corn friday night! Pink snow from Simon!! :D
This week-end was the Salon des Reptiles in montreal and since he had such a great temper friday night I decided to put him in a 10gallon tank at our table.
His great temper only lasted 1 day. Saturday after-noon when I went to take him out of his tank he started trashing around and moving very fast. I covered the aquarium for the rest of the day and sunday I put his tank under the table so he wouldn't see all the people around.
Last night when I came to put him in the 25gallon tank he started trashing around again and I heard a sort of weezing/crackling noise from him... Today I opened the tank to take him out and put a bigger hide, once again he trashed like crazy and I heard the noise...
He only makes that noise when I hold him and for a few minutes after...
What is that??

Also, when I put him in his tank for the first time last night and 10 minutes ago after taking him out he pooped but he hasn't eaten in 2-3 weeks...

Whats going on with him?

Thanks!

Jean-Philippe

give him a bit to settle in and hold him anyway keep the tank warm enough so he can digest his food properly

It's probably hissing/aggression.

The snake has been put under an extreme amount of stress. The move, the show, etc.

I'd leave him totally alone for over a week if I was you. No checking, no cleaning, no nothing. Then start your feeding, handling etc. because he is probably definitly being aggresive from stress. (the thrasing/hissing)

Definitely give him a chance to settle down. He likely seemed calm to you the first day because he was stressed and passive. He has undergone a lot of changes - it is a big shift for a snake to go from a rubbermaid in a rack, which is very secure and calm place - to being at a show, on display and then housed in an aquarium. Even when he was under the table, the vibrations from all that activity in a show would be stressful.

Give him a week or even more with no handling or feeding - just change his water and clean any poops. He can go for ages without food - what he really needs is to settle down and get comfortable in his new home without stress of handling.

Good luck with him - if he is the one Simon had advertised - he is a beauty,

This week-end I heard a pinesnake hiss and it didn't sound anything like this so I thought he had an infection or something...
I'll do what you say and post in a week and say how he's doing.

Thanks for the advice!

Jean-Philippe

P.S. Mary, thats the one :D i'll take some pics when he's all settled in. :)

Well, watching his nose/mouth area, and keeping his hot spot nice and warm wouldn't be a bad idea either. Since none of us can actually hear the sound, its hard to say 100% anything.

I'd keep a good eye out and simply keep him in solitary :) for awhile.

also a 25 g might be a bit big for a baby corn snake......when we got our baby corn she was about lost in a 10 g for a long time!

ya sapphire moon is right let the tank grow with the snake its just like a baby start in a crib and then move to a bed

He's an adult :)

If the snake is an adult then a 25 gallon is not too large.

Good luck,
