Pink question

I just had a bunch of baby rats today. 18 to be exact. I want to feed my corn snake pink rats and switch him over from mice. He's eating good on frozen thawed and if I feed him a live pink rat do you think this would alter his eating on f/t? I don't really want to kick up the CO2 chamber for a couple of rat pink if I don't have to since I want to let them grow big enough to feed my boa and ball python.

Just wack the couple rats you need. But rat pinks shouldn't be a problem as they can't do any harm to a snake at that age. It shouldnt alter his feeding habits either, as corns have a great feeding response as is.

With corns I don't think that is a problem (with a few exceptions of course). My corn was taking f/t and when I ran out of f/t pinkies I went to the LPS to buy a live one to feed it. Next feeding day he took a f/t with no problemo.

how should I whack a pinkie? I mean I could use my chamber but don't wanna waste it on a few mice and the severing the spine would kinda seem like it could make the poor guy bleed out or something. If that's what has to be done though no problem or by whack do you mean a swift blow to the head?

I remember someone on the site mentioning that you could put the pinkies in a sealed container and they would slowly breath there air away.. sort of like a CO2 chamber... it doesnt seem like it could be any more stressful to the pinky then a CO2 chamber.. and it deffinitly works because i've tried it... just takes a bit of time.. i suggest you try it out.

how to whack: with pinkies, since you cant really pick em up by the tail, i put em in a plastic ziplock bag and swing that against the edge of a table or desk, hard. occasionally there's a little blood from the mouth or nose, but its not too gross.
