View Full Version : corns living together!?
I was wondering whether a baby corn (a few months old) can permanently live in the same tank as a older corn (3 years+) without any kind of conflicts? Feeding wouldn't be the issue because I will feed them in seperate containers but I am worried about the larger one bullying or smothering the smaller one. Any advice would be much appreciated.
That's probably a bad idea. Corns have been known to eat their own kind, although that's pretty rare, and happens most often with juveniles. Worse is that with the size difference, the odds of your little one being stressed are very high. Stressed snakes dont eat well, and can actually die.

Well when I bought my first two corn snakes although I don't reccomend doing it, my cage ended up cracking on the way home and I wasn't about to put a snake in a cracked enclosure. So that night I housed them together my male was 18 inches the female 17. I watched them constantly and the whole time they were both curled up next to eachother in the same hide. Next day I immediatly got a new enclosure though.
I don't reccomend risking it though I just got lucky and didn't allow it for longer than i had too. Hell if I had even a small rubbermaid available that night I would have put it in there rather than with the other snake but I just got down driving 7 hrs round trip from a show and wasn't about to drive another 2 hrs round trip to get a rubbermaid at wal mart.

Also corn snakes need such small enclosures why not just buy a 10-20 gal rubbermaid for 3-4.00?

Same size is something that can be debated, I personally keep all specimens seperately except for breeding purposes. Others have kept them together for years no problems. Differnet size like mentioned, bad idea. The big one is apt to eat the little one & if it doesn't the little one will be big time stressed probably, Mark
I've housed 2 (1.1) together for a little over 2 months now and haven't had any problems, yet. I plan on seperating them before the female gets a year old so they won't mate to soon. They are about the same size. The female is a month and a half older then the male and about 2 inches longer. They seem to like each others company and if I take one out the other seems to look for it. I am not an expert but just thought I'd share my little experience.

I house all my snakes separatly, unless for breeding.
I personally wouldnt suggest housing an adult, and a young snake together.
Especially considering corns canablistic tendancys. Maybe the adult won't end up eating the baby but thier still stress associated with a bigger snake in the area and no way for your little guy to escape its territory. If anything go out and buy a $8 rubbermaid for the younger one, it's really not worth the risk.\
Best of luck
