Most likely its getting ready to shed. If your husbantry is suffient and correct, then I highly doubt its a thermal burn.

If your ball python does not shed within two to weeks then, or he does shed and it is still there then it most likely has thermal burns. In which case you should go to the vet and see how serious it is. But that just IMO. HTH
OK i wil go to the vet in like 2 weeks but he jsut sheded??? ok thanks for all your help everybody!!

OOK i just looked at his heat pad and it was very hot so i unpulged it for some time!! it think it was the heat pad!!bad bad bad OK
Oliver
You MUST have a thermometer! Looking or feeling the heat pad does nothing. You might have or be killing your snake by not having the proper equiptment!

Well i have all that stuff but it was to hot for my hand to sit on I dont want to upset anyone!!! I was jsut saying that!!
Oliver but thanks you for all your replys.
Well how hot is it then?
If you tell us how hot the thermometer said it was, then we can very likely tell you if your snake is burned or not.

Is the heat pad in the cage? Sounds like it. The only heat pad I know cool enough to be in the cage w/o a thermostat would be the small one made by four paws that only get 89-90 tops and sometimes you're lucky if it gets that warm. Which is why I don't buy them anymore.

If the heatpad is actually IN the enclosure, they belong *under* it...
And as said above, if it's just shed you've burned your snake... 'feeling' temps and knowing them can mean the difference between a happy snake and a burned or dead one...how hard is it?

If you can't keep your hand on the heat pad, then it's way too hot. I can put my hand right on my heat tape..........
tsk tsk tsk

I feel really really bad for your BP :(

Here is my setup of my bp's. Maybe it will help out a bit, but if you can zoom in on the pic, you will notice, I have everything elevated about 2 inches from the pads, pads are under my enclosures and everything is hooked to thermostats, regualted by temp gages.
The pic.

Edit Pic is bad and top cage is a little lopsided when I took the pic, but you get the general idea.
I suggest gettin a digital thermometer with the probe and place it on your heat pad. I tested mine without any animals, without a thermostat to see JUST how hot these pads get. One of the ones I experimented with got 104 degree and that was UNDER the enclosure before I raised them up off the pad itself.
I don't mean to worry you, but if you don't properly regualte any type of heat source, the temps can go through the roof. And thats ANY type of heat source.
Hope this helps. :)

I just bought a digital infrared surface thermometer and was shocked to find some areas of my cage reached 120 degrees. The "stick-on" thermometer read only 90. I felt horrible. no pink scales though.
I am using a heat pad and a heat lamp now just to keep my temps over 70-75 degrees. I wish I could get better control of the temps.

A heat pad should be enough to bring the temps to where you need them. Just remember heat rises. Might have too much ventilation. Also glass doesn't hold heat well at all.

When you say "I am using a heat pad and a heat lamp now just to keep my temps over 70-75 degrees." I hope you mean the cool side.
zero&stich: That setup is like the setup one of my friends used before and the one of the cages ended up killing his snake because of the heat from the other cage caused it to become to hot. I'm not saying that your way is wrong or that is what will happen to your snakes, but make sure to check the temps regularly no matter what system you are using because I dont want it to happen to anyone elses snake. No offense intended.

malaysianbloods,
Sure it's the cool side. That's where he likes to hang out though.

Thanks for the reminder. I apperiate that. :) I have them elevated bout a inch and a half above the pads, which are underneath, all hooked to thermostats with digital thermometers. And they are checked all the time(temps ect). ;)
